"2010 was the GOP trying (and wildly succeeding) at making 2010 a referendum on Obama..."

While that was certainly part of the picture, their bigger selling point was government spending. They were able to sell it as a high concept, and neither the Dems nor the media compelled them to talk anything more specific than 'government waste'. The vast majority of Americans think the government should spend less, but when asked where, they don't want Medicare, Social Secuirty, or defense touched. Without that, there can be no substiantial change in the trajectory of our debt.

Also, don't forget the far right almost certainly cost the GOP control of the Senate. They were heavily favored in Delaware and Nevada, and were also favored in Colorado. But the Tea Party were able to nominate fringe candidates instead of mainstream politicians, and the Dems held those seats, keeping a narrow majority in the Senate.

Anyone can spout general theories about the economy, but realistically implementing them and understanding the complexity and impact of our place in the global market is quite simply beyond her level of understanding. I hope that this will become evident as the candidates begin their debates.

Dubya was voted into office. Twice. It's just too painful to forget.
