Again?
"This isn't merely a bad film, but a painful experience that you keep telling yourself to leave. However, I have a very strong belief in witnessing the terror. People had to survive the Holocaust to hold those responsible, responsible. This film isn't as bad as the Holocaust. Nothing could be. But in the realm of film going experiences - it's a third trimester abortion. It is a pregnant woman smoking a cigarette and drinking a Coors Light."
I had no desire to see this film before. But now, part of me, the part that finds something fascinating about truly horrendous cinema, wants to see it.
But I won't let that part of me subject the rest of me to this movie.
So... judging from that off-the-meter reaction, I'd say their demographic is middle-aged ladies and not snarky bloggers.
that was quite a colorful review.
I couldn't quite tell if he was pro or con though.
Yeah, really, the review should be a bit more clear on that front.
Hm. Jest a tiddy bit over the top, no?
Provided a good laugh today...
Even the injecting acid remark was over the top
p.s. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong. But I could swear Mike Meyers was in a "legal" battle with a studio because he signed a multi-picture deal and they wanted to do a Linda Richman (Coffee Talk) movie and he thought it was terrible and didn't want to put out crap to "his" audience.
That makes The Love Guru more baffling, no?
That was a movie based on his Dieter character Craig. I don't how it was resolved.
But here's some good news: it seems as though Guru is the front runner for the Razzies!
Mike Myers's The Love Guru , which is being released on Friday, is receiving so many blistering early reviews that Los Angeles Times writer Tom O'Neil, who tracks films up for major awards in his column "Gold Derby," is predicting that the film may be a shoo-in for the Razzie for worst film of the year.

re: the Razzies -
I wouldn't count out Eddie Murphy's odious romp.
oh that's right! That movie looks absolutely embarrassing.
I can't even recall the name, but I posted the trailer awhile ago just b/c it looked so horrendous.

Yes, Taz, I have YOU to thank for entering it into my consciousness
But I have seen more advertising since, including having to suffer through a trailer in a theater - so the horror was blown up in our faces.
Yes.. but Eddie seems to make any movie that gets thrown on his desk. So there's no real "disappointment" or surprise there
Mike Meyers has been someone selective - esp when nurturing his own characters - which makes this quite sad.
Eddie Murphy is playing the Ricardo Montalban role in the Fantasy Island remake. Murphy only does remakes it seems. Fantasy Island was my favorite show and I had heard a few years ago that they wanted Ricardo to reprise his role as Mr.Roarke. Eddie Murphy is the anti Christ!
I am surprised this film is getting panned like it is. I do like Myers but maybe he should stick to voice overs. I had also heard he confirmed a 4th Austin Powers is coming soon. I hope they call it Austinpu$$y (this was suppose to be the title of the 3rd one til they decided to make the bad guy Goldmember)
And if it weren't for Mike Myers cancelling the "Dieter" film, David Hasselhoff would never have appeared on Broadway. After the film fell through, Hasselhoff was available when offered the part of "Jekyl & Hyde".
So, I'm not sure if Myers should be damned for being responsible for that happening to Broadway, or praised for finally killing that dumb show...
With this film Mike Myers has insulted his intelligence and sullied his reputation. I want to barf when I think of all of the 12 year olds that will be dropped off at the theater this summer and waste their money on this when they could be doing just about anything else. Major poo poo.
So who's seen it?

It does seem to be getting pretty uniformly dreadful reviews, doesn't it? Even Roger Ebert trashes it. LOVE GURU evidently doesn't scale the comic heights that BEOWULF scaled, I guess.

Could this be worse than Chicago?

Someone made a movie out of CHICAGO?
I'll have to reserve judgment until I actually see LOVE GURU. Not that I'm planning on it.

They did. And it's really good! I think you'll love it!
Mike Myers was on The Daily Show last night promoting this movie and you could just smell the desperation emanating from him. I do feel bad for him, though, don't wish the guy harm (although I think a little Mike Myers goes a long, LONG way), but man does this look like sh*t.

As long as it is well made and well cast, how can it miss?
I've been over the Mike Myers thing since GOLDMEMBER. What a bore. Haven't missed him, although I have gotten some laughs out of re-watchings of the first two Austin Powers movies.

He refused to do the Dieter/Shpockets movie because he said the script was no good.
The script the he wrote himself!
Maybe he didn't want to do a Linda Richman/Coffee Talk movie becasue the character is based on his mother-in-law, who's name is Linda Richman.
Oops - make that his EX-mother-in-law.
A friend of mine and I caught the early screening this morning.
There 2 other kids in the front including my friend and I. Sad that 4 people attended.
It was not as bad as I thought it would be however it was pretty weak. We laughed but it was more like how stupid it was than anything. Few cameos (Val Kilmer and Jessica Simpson) Funny cameo with Mike Myers (you have to see it to understand)
It was not the worst film I have ever seen and I enjoyed it more than I did 'The Happening'.
I also liked the Bollywood musical numbers (9 to 5, More than Words, and Steve Miller's The Joker)
Still, I think if it had more jokes in there it would have not been that bad. It would have taken Bruce Villanche a couple hours to just throw in some quick witty jokes and it would have made it a lot better.
Instead, the jokes were dumb but still funny in the way you laugh at it but you don't want anyone seeing you laugh because its just so stupid. For example:
MIKE MYERS: (thick accent) What is so bad that you can't face?
HOCKEY PLAYER: What did you just call me?
I must say, Manu Narayan who played the Love Guru's assistant was SO HOT! I think he is a well known Indian Actor but damn, my friend and I were really turned on when he was on screen.
So, there it is. I love the character but the film is a little weak. I think if Mike Myers does another Austin Powers film he should write the Love Guru into the film somehow.
