Oh my, folks-they "modernized" the Miss America pageant and it is so sick! They have the 10 finalists on the stage in their costumes ready to do their talent segment. In the middle of this, they announce that one of them will not be performing, and that she must walk over to the "loser" side of the stage. (all the parents are also sitting on the stage.) The baton twirler was eliminated, but they made her twirl a few batons to take them into the commercial break.
I hope they are aiming for "so bad it's good".

OMG!!! I'm freaking out.
Kirsten is the younger sister of one of my best friends!! We were all watching here and just started screaming when she won. YIKES!!
I wish she danced because she is an incredible dancer.

Jane2, I wasn't able to watch. I taped the ice skating as I had tickets to the ballet this evening in DC. I'm hoping that TLC re-airs it like CMT did last year.

Posted: 1/27/08 at 12:51amI thought of you immediately Dottie! Don't have any high expectations when you watch the show. It's drastically changed and doesn't resemble the old pageant one iota.

Posted: 1/27/08 at 12:53amI was at the pageant Dottie! TLC is running it tomorrow (Sun.) at 2pm and I'm sure they will run it several times during the week. I hope so, because it's always different on television than it is here in the theater. I was in the sixth row center, though!

LOL!!! Now you know it was killing me that I was missing some of these things live, too. The Kirov was wonderful though. What an enjoyable evening I had.
By the way, I ain't no woman!

Posted: 1/27/08 at 3:41pmYep! Dottie, the first singer (Over the Rainbow) was what reminded me of an American Idol audition. ouch, my ears!

Once Bert Parks went, it was never the same.Hell, it ain't even in Atlantic City anymore.
I always wanted one of them to say , instead of world peace or helping others etc etc, that they wanted to become a domanatrix or sell drugs or something. How about livening it up?
Have a contestant sing a Wildhorn ditty or have one warble something from Lestat.I'd watch that.

Dottie, this was my 32 year attending the Miss America Pageant. As Miss P said, I have a long and storied relationship with MA.
I sat with all the formers again this year. Lee Merriweather sends her regards!

Posted: 1/27/08 at 9:32pmSo "Over The Rainbow" girl won? I had to stop watching after her. Ouch is right!

Posted: 1/27/08 at 9:33pmThis whole format was so demeaning to these college educated women! Eliminating contestants on stage- while their parents were sitting on stage was just ridiculous. Props to Miss Utah for doing her push-ups- that was so funny! What's interesting to me is that they did this whole reality show to make sure they chose a modern MA, yet the girl who won had big blonde hair and full dresses. She sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow- a very old song. I was really hoping for Miss Washington because she sang a contemporary song and has a gay parent. She would have been such a great spokeswoman for gay rights. To me, the girl that won looked similar to last year's winner. Very disappointed in the way they produced this entire pageant. I hated how they let the public ask the questions and then the women had to "fight" for the right to answer the question- ugh! At least we got to see 8 talents. How hard was it for the last girl to do her talent knowing that she came so close to elimination? I wonder how the ratings were?
