It's never been done and I want it done. Well. Not like the Les Mis movie (I heard it was crap), but I really think Miss Saigon would make a great movie. Not sure whether it would be musical or just straight cinema, but I want it done!
learn to search.......already threads about this....

Well I rarely bother to go past the first 50 on the boards. But if it's gone off the top of the boards, there's no harm in this thread. Any comments on the Miss Saigon bit now, after six useless posts between me and elphy?
vmlinnie, I think MISS SAIGON could work if it wasn't entirely sung. (The same could be said of LES MIZ, if ever it becomes a movie.) I would take out the recitative (sung dialog) and replace it with actual spoken dialog but leave in the arias (songs). This way they could also add more scenes. Just a suggestion.

Yeah, I like it. Oh, and they made a film of Les Mis in 1998, no songs, just Liam Neeson and Uma Thurman.
There have been many attempts at Les Mis for the screen. Here they are:
Les Mis Films
Those films of LES MISERABLES you listed were based on the novel and not the stage musical. There have been rumors of turning LES MIZ (the musical) into a movie ever since its debut. I was suggesting that if ever it gets made they should include spoken dialog.
As long as they don't just speak the lyrics, like they did for the RENT movie. Am I the only one who thought that was a bad idea?
I can't even read this thread. I'm too busy laughing at your av pictures going back and forth, like some freaky-nerdy zoo!
Those lying bastards.
I'm still bitter.
Whoa! Why did that fall through?
Couldn't tell you, but that ad was in the souvenir program when I saw the national tour in high school. The idea must have been pretty far along for them to make an ad for it.
I concur, Rose. Reciting lyrics is a bad idea.
I thought that was the weakest point of the RENT movie. It sounded awkward and just plain weird.
In the PHANTOM movie they also spoke some of the lyrics. It was odd because the characters were sometimes speaking in rhyme.

Never heard about that Les Mis 'going to the cinema' thing.
I like how she's holding tickets.
It's like she's saying "HAHA! I've got tickets and you don't!"

They use that same trick all the time. For the school edition it shows her holding books, and so on. Better than holding her broom, like she usually does.
I agree, I think Miss Saigon could work as a movie as long as they took out sung dialogue ( Backstage Dreamland, The Transaction, The Revelation etc...) and kept the real songs (The Heat is On, Bui Doi, I Sill Belive...etc). They might also need to add some more dialogue, but I think with the right screenwriter and director, it could work as a movie.
I forgot about POTO. But it had far fewer spoken lyrics.
By the way, Rose, I saw your photos and I love your Bomballurina costume. (I could never tell which cat was which, except for the ones referenced in the songs.) Did you make it yourself? It looks very professional. Same for the ruby slippers. It must have been painstaking sewing all those red sequins.
Well, you certainly know the way to my heart!
Yes, I made Bombalurina. Well, not the leotard and pants--those were bought. But I dyed and painted them, as well as the wig (which started out as a hideous shoulder-length hood with rubber ears).
The ruby slippers were tedious, but not difficult. I'll let you in on a secret: Those sequins are actually hot-glued on to the shoe. And there's about 8 yards of sequins per shoe. Thank God they're cheap...
