The MoMA reopens! But what's this about a $20 adult admission? Woah, that's insane. Even the student admission ($12) is a bit steep, no?

Yeah, that does seem a bit much! It's like the museums in Boston (the MFA is $15, and I seem to recall having to pay extra for special exhibits...I'm pretty sure we had to when we saw "The Art of the Guitar" there several years ago) and the Museum of Science that starts at $15 or so and goes up over $20 if you want to see the other shows (stuff at the Omni Theatre and their light shows, etc.) It's really crazy, especially when you consider how much it would cost for a family to go out and spend a day at a museum (between all of the tix, and then the insane prices of food and stuff, oh and parking!!! CRAZY!) I'm going to MOMA in a couple of weeks for an Art class, but we have half off discounts from when we went MOMA Queens at the beginning of the semester! At least that's something! It's really sad that it's so expensive though!

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

Nowhere near what a family would pay for one of them there fancy Broadway musikals everybody's always mentioning around here. Most museum art will have more historical impact than, say, Brook-line or Footloose: The Musickal ever will.

And then let's talk about what the same family will spend for a pro sports game.

Is $20.00 the suggested adult admission? That is a bit steep. I remember paying $25.00 many years back to see the Picasso exhibit at MoMA. I bet if they have an exhibit of that magnitude it will cost $100. to see it.

20 bucks for MoMA is a bargain.

And to follow through on Namo's point on the cost of family entertainment the family membership at $150 provides unlimited visits plus other discounts and perks. Not so bad a deal.

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

Namo...I hear you w/ the crazy prices, particularly for sporting events. God, you practically have to take out a loan to see a Sox game at Fenway. I could not believe that there seemed to be so many kids there during the World Series. Nothing like blowing thousands of dollars on your three year old kid who'll never remember the night, just so 40 years down the road he/she can say "I was there!"

And baseball is actually a lot cheaper than the other professional sports- NBA prices are outrageous. And in both cases, corporations get all the good seats anyway. You have to have connections to get at them. I friggin' hate it. Updated On: 11/20/04 at 11:22 PM

Did anyone go to see MoMA this weekend?

The photos in the NYTimes suggest the 'White Cube' on steroids.

Are they able to display more of their collection at one time? How is the lighting?

Anybody have a favorite piece you are dying to see again?

From the pictures I've seen from news sources, I love that the three large panels of Monet's Lilies (forgot the actual name of the piece) are now flat against one wall. Before the renovations, they didn't have a wall long enough for this, so they had to "curve" the installation (ie. each panel on a different wall).
