For years and years, everybody's desperately afraid
to be different in any way.
And then, suddenly, almost over night,
everybody wants to be different.
And that's where we win."

FE2, that's kind of what I love. Not making fun of any of these people, but the fact that yes, the gays act . . . well, gay. And Gloria is full-on Latina. And the uptight WASPs are uptight and WASPy.
And everyone has to deal with the ways in which they're different.
And then to see these inspired actors work within the boundaries of the possibly stereotyped characters is a joy.

I think the thing is - which Reg and Namo and PJ and other have noted - is that everyone is in on the joke, and that even when laughs are had at a character's expense, it's not coming from a place of meanspiritedness. Yes, sometimes Cam becomes a screaming queen, but you know what, that rings really true to me. Mitchell and Cameron are probably the most real gay couple I've ever seen on tv; certainly they are the TV gays I'd most like as my real life friends.
There's so much warmth and heart to the show and I think that the entire cast is top notch. I've been recording each episode to dvd as they air so I can watch them at my disposal, but I intend to get the season 1 dvd when it comes out as well.
And the kid who plays Manny deserves an Emmy nomination.

Sofia Vergara is on Ellen right now.
That IS her accent! She talks just like she does on the show.
I think I love her.

I know I'm a few days behind--but I just watched Wednesday's episode. What a fantastic episode! So much heart and soul behind it. And its funny. And real. God, I just love it. This show keeps getting better every week.
And Phyllis, I couldn't agree more about the boy who plays Manny deserving an emmy nomination. I just want to squeeze him--he's too cute.
