Might i add that everyone DOES have a right to express an opinion. But, there is a way to go about it when debating. With Art it's a one-sided argument who repeats himself over and over...you know, like an over-played Pop song on the radio...only one that isn't so good...(Like Macarena)...
He is a dolt who's logic and "agenda" is completely screwed up. So, basically, when one states an opinion, they must state it as an opinion, not as a fact - which is what he is doing.
He is a hopeless case, and what's even more sad are those who agree with him.
That's not an opinion. that is a fact,

Justice, you are abso****inglutely ridiculous.
If he bothers you so much, don't read his thread. Just skip it. Block him. Stop fuming because you can't lead a brick wall to water.

I don't see how it's sad to agree with him. The first time I saw the RENT trailer, I thought a very similar thing. I thought it made it look like a soppy chick flick, and pretended like the gay characters weren't there
BUT, it's not that big a deal to me. Sure, I like RENT, but it's not the be all and end all to me.
I agree with the underlying idea of his first post, but then he just lost it and went overboard.
But I actually made a similar post the first time I saw the trailer, on a RENT trailer thread, and it went largely unnoticed...
This is all a major overreaction...

Here's the thing:
Teh definition of Homophobia falls nowhere near what art is trying to say. Phobia = fear.
anyway, it's useless. And you're right JRB, God knows I shouldn't have wasted my time. But you don't have to be so GD harsh about it.

But, that said, I never thought it was homophobic.
I was just disappointed...

Actually, if you're discussing the marriage thing, well, that is a different story. In terms of opression, I am free to be who I am. Nobody is holding ME down. Therefore, I am not opressed. Nor will I live my life thinking negative things. I have more positive things to think about.

The definition of "homophobia" is a fear of two or more things of the same kind.
With that being spoken, let's say I had homophobia. I'd be scared of twins. I'd be scared of a two of the same cars (color, model, everything) parked next to each other.
It's paranoia at its finest.
Homophobia has nothing to do with gay people. It just happens to use the same Latin prefix.

Homo = same
Phobi = fear of.
homophobia = fear of the same.

Learn your English, C_O. Words in our lexicon don't mean the same thing as their roots or DAME would be running around calling everyone a housewife.

Chitaphobia?
(and Plum, I was just making point that people disregard the real meanings for words and replace them with whatever they think fit.)
Fear of homosexuality would actually mean homosexualphobia, but whatever.

Thank you Chita for pointing that out THREE TIMES NOW! I get it.
While you think you're being funny, "tedisuofool" sounded cool in the 7TH GRADE. Yes. Tedious and fool were both AP vocabulary words and, when put together, they sounded COOL.
Better than your "chitariv6". Were the first five taken? Hmm. Atleast mine's original. I'm not going to just use someone's name. Might as well use my own.
(And I didn't think my first explanation posted, since this other window came up and asked for me to sign in again.)

Posted: 8/13/05 at 8:20pmAnd I was making the point that your point is incorrect, C_O. Homophobia's meaning is not the sum of the meaning of its roots. In English, the word means fear and/or hatred of gay people. And as long as we're being academically pretentious, homophobia's word roots come from Greek as well as Latin.

Plum is right---while phobia refers to fear, the meaning of the term today includes hatred and prejudice. We don't have a word like racist or sexist or anti-Semitic. Homophobia covers that, particularly when one can't always pin point whether ones actions or words against the gay community are based in absolute fear or hatred--most likely mixture.

I didn't have to, but you pick a few up when you take two linguistics classes in college. (You'd think I'd learn my lesson after the first, but noooo...)
