Mom and I are going away, but where?

Hey, I am turning 18 in November and my mom and I have decided that we would like to take a little road trip together. We have a few things that we need to keep in mind though:
1) Distance, we don't wanna go any place that will take longer than 5 hours to get too.
2) We are only going for 2-3 nights because I am in an Opera, and I have rehearsals.
3) Someplace FUN!!!
My mom and I also love history so we are always looking for new museums, or fun, interesting places to visit. We would also love to go see a national tour of something not too far away. (even though we live in NYC, weird, huh?) If anyone has any towns, or excact destinations to suggest I would really apppreciate it!! Thanks so much!!

Right, I forgot to specify:
We don't wanna go to DC, we just went like 3 weeks ago, and we don't wanna go to Boston because we have been and we don't like it. Mass. doesn't work, because I am actually going to be there on tour with an opera in late october for 2 nights, and my mom is actually coming with me for that. Thanks though!! :)

Boston is a great city...especiall for young people. I don't know when you'd be coming, but The Boston Ballet presents The Nutcracker every year, starting the day after Thanksgiving, if that's something you'd be interested in.

When you say "National Tour" do you mean a show? Because there's that new "Broadway" musical by Frank Wildhorn out in Gettysburg, PA called "For the Glory". (I'll put the link below) I know nothing about it really.....except what I've read, but it's theatrical. And there are lots of other museums to visit in Gettysburg, including a wax museum.

Otherwise, I like the idea of Boston...always had fun there! Washington is nice too. Annapolis, Maryland is another one of my favorites to visit for just a few days. Then again my town gets all decked out for Christmas and does all sorts of touristy stuff for visitors during the holidays (it's called Bethlehem, the "Christmas City"), so it would be lovely in November!

Chicago is awesome, but wayyyy longer than 5 hours from New York.

The Berkshires in Western MA. It's far away from Boston and has:

the Tanglewood Music Festival

Shakespeare and Co.

the Hancock Shaker Museum

The Botanical Gardens

Edith Wharton's "The Mount"

The Shrine of the Divine Mercy

The Norman Rockwell Museum

...and one good restaurant--The Dakota Steak House

...and one Great restaurant--The Red Lion Inn (the New England Clam Chowder is sensational)

The Berkshires are about as far north as Albany.

November? Why not take a beach trip now.
Cape Cod is beautiful this time of year.
Vermont
Maine
I was suppossed to go to The Cape with my boyfriend but we just broke up for the third time. Ah, well.
Whatever you do have fun.

You didn't have to break up with your boyfriend over your trip to the Cape. You could have gone somewhere else and salvaged the relationship.

Sad. Terribly sad.

So, will he be going to P-Town alone?

What the hell do you people all do in Boston that's so much fun? I find it rather dull most of the time.

I agree. I found it to be very boring, even when I was there for a summer program at BoCo, there was nothing to do in my free time.

We are considering Philly. Thanks :)

I second Philly! I grew up around it and now live less than an hour from it, so I end up going all the time. Haven't grown bored with the city yet!
