No more wire hangers
I'm so glad I waited to get this on DVD. I have it on tape. I cannot wait. Hope there are some great extras. Faye commentary maybe? Does she even like to talk about the movie?

The original DVD release has zero extras, so this will be a step up no matter what.
No she doesn't like to talk about it, but one can hope she'll MAKE AN EXCEPTION! ("You may keep the doll AND the bracelet!")
I wouldn't be surprised if Rutanya Alda and Mara Hobel contributed commentary. They do not disown the film.
The director isn't alive so he can't contribute commentary.
Deleted scenes are a possibility. I know there are at least two: One where Joan talks to little Christina on the beach about her life, and another where Joan chases after Christina in the car when Christina tries to run away.
I would love a featurette on the film's cult following/place in history, too.
ETA: It would be great if they also included all the spoofs and drag reenactments of the film. Maybe even Mommie Queerest?

The original has the trailer and foreign language tracks, which are both a blast. The scene selection titles are also hysterical. Clearly the people behind the Mommie Dearest DVDs are not willing to present the film for what it was intended to be. I mean, the title for this one is HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY! LOL!
I'm praying for cut scenes. There have to be quite a few. Every line in that film is genius, so imagine the stuff they cut! This movie got me through my horrible senior year of college.
When were you a senior in college?
I've read that the beach scene between young Christina and older Christina makes Joan more sympathetic.... doubtful anyway! That's what the scene in Christina's apartment (where Joan gives her a gift) was for, and it was still campy.
Just an fyi: So far I have solid news on a UK and Canada release for the special edition. I hope everything applies for a US version. (It is, after all, Region 1)

Mamma Mia!
Gotta be deleted scenes, because the network TV version and the initial video are not the same! Who doesn't pray for new quotables?
Me, I still love all the Al Pepsi era stuff the best. "They asked me how I'd describe the marriage of the soft drink king and the queen of hollywood ... I said it's a helluvam match!"
And the entire "Barbara, Please!" sequence, which Christopher S. deconstructs so vivedly in that documentary that replays on LOGO. Priceless. Scarwid's line readings are unlike anything in the universe.

I was shocked to see that Glebb did not start this thread!
I would kill for a film version of the book's scene on the ocean liner Andrea Doria. Joan thinks Christina is flirting with her husband Al Steele, so she double slaps Christina and says, "I got my man, now you damn well get your own." I swear Mommie Dearest the BOOK is campy and the film was true to it.

I love, love, LOVE this movie. And I love me some Faye Dunaway!
It's funny that something which caused someone (Christina Crawford, Faye Dunaway) such pain can bring millions of others so much joy.

How about a clip of Waylon Flowers & Madam's comment on a talk show at the time:
Joan Crawford is dead and deserves every minute of it.
TLA video has some info on the extras. They don’t say anything about deleted scenes, but there are several featurettes and a John Waters commentary (he does the best DVD commentaries).
Evelyn, you mentioned wanting a featurette on the cult following, and sure enough, there is one (with Waters and Lipsynka!). June 6th...can’t wait.
Oh, and I love the “search” keywords on TLA’s site…aging, alcoholism, orphans.

Thanks for this, NC! I love when people in Hollywood read my posts on IMDB and other forums, and then use them to inform their creative decisions. (Though they bit the dust on my circa summer 2004 Rosario Dawson promotion for the Rent film.) Has John Waters ever done commentary for a film he hasn't made? I just know this is going to be hilarious anyway. I hope Mara Hobel and Rutanya Alda have been interviewed.

The MAJOR COUP would be to get DUNAWAY. But she "ain't havin' it"..so we will just have to make due.
I mean, even Raquel Welch was "big" enough to provide commentary for "Myra Breckenridge"...
*oh well*...

This dvd should kick ass. After all the times watching the bland one disc, it would be great to see some special extras on one of my favorite films.
Finishing up on Oxygen!
I'd forgotten how entertaining this movie is. :)
