Posted: 5/27/12 at 8:06pmHad the extreme pleasure of seeing Wes Anderson's new movie this morning and I really loved it. I can't say I've "loved" his movies in the past, but I've at least respected his previous films. This was a sweet, beautifully shot, slightly melancholy little film. There are lots of chuckles and the cast is great. The two young adult actors he found are terrific, especially Kara Hayward. It put me in a good mood all afternoon and needs to go direct to Criterion release.

I caught the early show at Lincoln Square this morning and it was packed. I hadn't seen any early screening that full since Shame.
Really enjoyed it. The camerawork in his films is always a delight, this film being no exception. I agree with you about Kara Hayward, she was wonderful to watch. There is an inherent sincerity in all of these characters, which I truly loved. The evolution of the Khaki Scouts was a lot of fun to watch. The late appearance of Jason Schwartzman was great.

I was at the same showing frogsfan. It was packed; possibly people already overloaded with the start of blockbuster season were looking for a change of pace?
I completely agree with everything you said in your second paragraph. Also wasn't McDormand great? After seeing her in Good People I have even more respect for her. Certainly makes it easier on Mr Anderson when he gets to work with an ensemble cast of such a high caliber.

I think you're right. This film was the perfect respite from the high octane, explosion ridden ones that I've seen in the past month.
The attorney banter between McDormand and Bill Murray was perfect because it was done with zero self-awareness. You could just tell that's how they have always spoken to each other.
Even the little touches like the cover art for Suzy's book were so lovingly rendered- every little detail just clicked in this.

".... needs to go direct to Criterion release."
It's Wes Anderson, only Fantastic Mr. Fox does not have a Criterion release.
I am really looking forward to this. Of the previous Anderson releases what would you say this is most similar to?
