Why is he a "tourist" president?
Because Obama's presidency will be documented in a feature film which will be turned into a Broadway musical featuring a score of hits by Kool and the Gang and run for 20 years.

Joe, I don't think goth could be any clearer: Obama is a "tourist" president because Hillary Clinton announced new funding to the Palestinian Authority.
Duh.

I guess you would think trying to broker peace in the Middle East is a waste of money.

Try turning away from the Anti-Israel channel for a minute.
Israel gave up the Gaza strip to try and bring about peace. All they got out of it was more terrorism. Funding the Palestinians is just throwing money to terrorists.

Goth, I am Jewish and would hazard to guess may be a wee bit more familiar with the issues in Israel than you. Unlike those who embrace Israel only to facilitate the End of Times scenario in the Bible, I am more interested in finding sustainable, long-term solutions that serve all parties.
Things do not happen in a vacuum. Perhaps if Bush had not forced elections when he was warned about the consequences things might be different.
But, please do not let facts or the actual history get in the way of your opinion.
BTW - by our analogy - based upon Tim McVeigh and the murder of Dr. Tiller, every Christian is a terrorist.

In Obama's first year, he travelled more than any other POTUS.
In addition, some of his trips were completely unnecessary (his trip to hear the US wasn't going to host the Olympics being one example).

"Things do not happen in a vacuum."
No they don't. Please go back and look at how many POTUS have tried to broker peace between them. Israel cannot be split like India. It will never happen.

Obama made 10 foreign trips in his first year; G.H.W. Bush made 7.
Therefore . . .what, exactly?

No. He did not. That is what we call "A lie". Please tell us how you arrived at this inaccurate conclusion.

Goth any lasting peace will involve some sort of two-state solution.
The last President that tried was Clinton, and he got very close.
It may well end up with the Palestinians giving up Gaza and getting land back in the West Bank. But, in order for anything to happen you need a viable Palestinian government that is not linked to Hamas and Palestinian people who respect the authority of their government and its ability to make a deal.
Without a functioning Palestinian government to negotiate with, nothing will happen. Which I guess is fine if all you care about is Jerusalem being solely in the hands of the Jews and just want to wave "so long" once they are "left behind" (if you believe that fairy tale).
Many who claim to support Israel only view it as a means to and end, and do not give a crap about its long-term survival. Israel may as well be a drug mule for operation salvation.

CBS News. If you have a problem with their reporting, go talk to them.

Right, but my question stands: therefore what?
Unless you're claiming he was just taking pictures of himself for his scrapbook, how is this a problem?
And if you want to play this (exceedingly stupid) game, how about this: W was the laziest president, making 26 visits to
Camp David his first year spanning all or part of 81 days, whereas Obama made only 11 visits totaling all or part of 27 days.
Ta da!

Between visits to his ranch and Camp David, Bush spent 977 days (more than 2.5 YEARS) vacationing while in office.

When faced with facts, from a non-Fox source, all you can do is "But, but, but Bush".
Echoing madbrian's post:
Sorry...big fan of facts & truth. I still wish there were a sane, rational conservative liberal to debate with. I think there is a real opportunity for debate, but it's lost without reasonable opposition.

But look at how much was accomplished on Bush's watch --
The Destruction of the U.S. Economy
The Invasion of Iraq
The Invasion of Afghanistan
The Fetishization of the U.S. Military
The Endorsement of Torture
You can't begrudge a guy some time off with an agenda like that.

But goth, the numbers are meaningless unless you're comparing them to SOMETHING, no?
I mean, are you arbitrarily saying 10 overseas trips is imperically wrong? Surely you can only make ANY kind of point by comparing that number to something else--say, another president's number of trips during a similar period.
Otherwise we're left with "It's wrong simply because Obama did it."

How I wish we never had to compare anyone to Bush. It would have been lovely if he had not been the President preceding Obama.
And yes Reg, that is exactly the point. Clinton and Bush have "czars" and nary a peep - it is a short form title use to reference agency heads and other executive branch appointments (some who are approved by the legislature, others that are not). With Obama, it is suddenly a socialistic plot.
Bush bails out the banks with no strings, and suddenly, it is Obama who was responsible for TARP.
Obama gives 95% of Americans a tax cut, and somehow it never happened.
Bush passes a temporary tax cut that sunsets on a date certain, and suddenly it is Obama raising your taxes.
There is no consistency or context, just anger and vitriol.

In other words, goth, you can't say someone is the most or worst something and then ignore comparisons.
YOU set up the comparisons, not those of us who have tried to respond.
