It's all over the news that the White House is indicating its intent to cave to the right, and make the Bush tax cuts permanent, citing something about 'political reality'. So, now that the GOP has a majority in one house of Congress, they get to dictate everything? If this is a sign of how this administration is going to deal with them, we're in for a long two years.
Oh yeah, and no one...NO ONE in either party can pretend to give a damn about the deficit. This decision adds trillions to the deficit.

Wait, wait . . . let me check . . .
Nope, not surprised.
In the least.
*sigh*

If you're so anxious to pay taxes to the government, why don't you write them a check?
And if you're so worried about the deficit, tell Obama to stop the travel. He's using the position of POTUS to be a tourist.
While nobody likes to pay taxes, and it's not popular to say, our taxes need to be higher, and more progressive toward the wealthy. That said, $250k is not wealthy, and we need more brackets, probably at least two more. We also need to fix our corporate tax laws. Each of us pay more in taxes than some of the largest corporations in the country.
While I'm at it, we need to address Social Security, and that can only be done by implementing a higher retirement age, and sooner rather than later. Again, I don't want to work longer, but the current age rules were put in place when life expectancy was much shorter than it is now. Defense and Social Security have to be addressed if we're ever going to get our house in order.

"He's using the position of POTUS to be a tourist."
I'm not much of a fan of his, but that's just a pathetically ridiculous statement.

There are times when Goth writes certifiably insane things.
"I'm not much of a fan of his, but that's just a pathetically ridiculous statement."
But...but...but...Fox 'News' told me so.
I read it was NOT permanent, but a temporary, two-year extension.
Not great, just kicking the can down the road to a time when hopefully the economy is in better shape.
I personally would approve of creating an additional tax bracket for those upper middle class and the truly wealthy - but that is just me.

It'd be more of a headline if we got strength from this White House.
This administration has seldom done anything but pander to the Fourth Reich, who've had control of Congress all along, thanks to the utter spinelessness of the Democrats.
The next two years will be pretty much like the last two years. Obama will probably be more open about his analingus of the Fourth Reich. Any bets as to when he decides to run as a Republican in 2012?
"If you're so anxious to pay taxes to the government, why don't you write them a check?"
Why don't you, seeing as how your party is responsible for the ever-mounting expenses of the war? Do you think that money to pay for it comes out of thin air?

You mean the war Obama promised to end?
Obama has gotten the US trillions of dollars in debt. All his bailouts that only bailed out who he wanted to bail out cost us a lot. He threw a lot of money down the sinkhole.
"All his bailouts that only bailed out who he wanted to bail out cost us a lot."
Despite the disinformation from Fox & the GOP, the bailouts have been a success. Most of the money has been repaid, and GM just turned their biggest profit in years.

MadB - you simply must stop trying to derail the argument with facts.
As goth quite accurately said in another thread, it doesn't have to be true.
Sorry...big fan of facts & truth. I still wish there were a sane, rational conservative to debate with. I think there is a real opportunity for debate, but it's lost without reasonable opposition.
And just to clarify my personal convictions, I am socially liberal, but fiscally, I actually have conservative tendancies. My theory is that the government should do as little as needed at the time. However, at this moment in history, it needs to be doing a lot. We need to build/rebuild our infrastructure, put reasonable regulations in place, and make sure that the least of our society have the support they need. Once our economy is back on track, the government should contract its role.
MB - get out of my freaking head...
I want madbrian to be president.
"You mean the war Obama promised to end?"
This wins the award for most ironic BS statement of the thread.
As an overweight atheist, I am unelectable.

So Goth you did it again. Obama has NOT spent more than any other President on travel. He's done far far far less "personal travel" than any president in recent memory. But for some reason YOU think he's spending too much.
So now, please, tell us why. Give us some facts on why you think he's a "tourist" president.
And I'm still waiting for why you think he's sinister, too so I'm not real optimistic you'll back up this falsehood.

And yet the unemployment rate is still almost 10%.

No, one lie at a a time. Why is he a "tourist" president?
