Most Memorable Films From Your Childhood

For me:

Star Wars
The Poseidon Adventure
Raiders of the Lost Ark
E.T.
Xanadu
Flash Gordon
Airplane!
9 to 5
The Black Hole (hee)
Tron
Coal Miner's Daughter

These films made me what I am today.

Make of that what you will.

Spice World.

Cheesy corporate boardroom pop music changed forever when that came out.

Mine was "The Sound of Music". It was dubbed in Spanish, but the songs were still in English. I watched that almost every day throughout my childhood.

When I finally saw the film in English, I was COMPLETELY thrown by the actors' speaking voices, particularly the children (wait? They're BRITISH?!)

Even though I HATE watching dubbed movies, I've never been able to sit through The Sound Of Music in English again.

The King and I
The Sound of Music (more my sister making me watch it with her EVERY DAY)
The Little Mermaid
Aladdin
Beauty and the Beast
Little Nemo's Adventures in Slumberland (the princess had the same name as me, so that was beyond cool)
Spice World
Willy Wonka

I also used to religiously rent this VHS of Clarissa Explains It All, that had like 3 episodes on it. I lived for that thing.

I saw Dumbo when I was about 6 or 7. Totally made an impression on me.

Also Star Wars and Grease.

re: Most Memorable Films From Your Childhood

I think it's funny how these lists totally date us! Here's my list, even though most of them have already been said:

Anne of Green Gables--I watched this ALL the time.

Strawberry Shortcack--there was a cartoon movie, and I watched it over and over again, back to back, so my parents would occasionaly tell me that the VCR was broken so they could get a break from it. I can still sing some of the songs! Once I outgrew that I discovered Space Camp (another well-worn video in my house).

Charlotte's Web--my mom and I would sing "Chin up" when she'd wash my hair.

Beauty and the Beast--the movie broke in the middle of the wolf scene, so we had an intermission.

Land Before Time
The Princess Bride
Neverending Story
The Muppet Movie
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Bambi
Dumbo
ET--First movie I remember seeing in the theatre.

Little Shop of Horrors--both the Rick Morranis/Steve Martin version, and the straight version.

MisterMatt, I can't believe you said Poseiden Adventure. I'm the youngest, so I saw some movies before I was really old enough. I remember walking in during Poseiden Adventure, and it's freaked me out ever since. I will definitely NOT be going to the remake this summer! Dark Crystal kind of freaked me out for some reason, too.
