The Village is one of the best scores I've ever heard. I also love Out of Africa, among others...

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

The Hours is my favorite movie score thus far, with REQUIEM FOR A DREAM second. As much as I thought THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST was a terrible movie, I loved the score.

I also love Requiem for a Dream and The Hours (the only Glass score I find listenable). I could listen to those on repeat all day. But I'm not a big fan of Michael Nyman. Maybe The Piano, but that's about it.

HOOK

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I'm a big movie score buff. My favourite scores:

THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, by Howard Shore (all three scores are phenomenal for different reasons)

THE PIANO by Michael Nyman (people should check his stuff out, he's fantastic)

TITUS by Elliot Goldenthal

I find John Williams to be hideously overrated.

My favorite at the moment is Edward Scissorhands, but I love pretty much anything Elfman does.
From current movies, I must say I adore Sideways' score.

Blue, I agree with you about Williams being overrated. He does write some really good main title themes (Superman: The Movie, being my favorite), but his scores are never that good. The only Williams scores that I think are really good, are: CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND; and my favorite of his, THE FURY.
