I brought this up in a MILK thread last year, but since I finally saw ANGELS & DEMONS, I have to rant yet again.
I just sat through a couple of people being burned to death - vividly - and many, MANY deaths by gunshot, some of which were in complete detail. Blood flowed freely.
And that flick was rated PG-13.
MILK, which only features intimacy in complete darkness, James Franco's naked butt (underwater!) and a couple of gunshots rendered without any graphic detail (like blood, for instance.)
And THAT flick was rated R!
SOOOOO, grab the kids, and let's go see some death, mayhem and destruction - but for GOD'S sake (and I spit that phrase out with ALL the venom I can muster!) let's NOT expose them to ANYTHING to do with same-sex attraction.
Of course, that will keep teenagers from seeing it, which will OF COURSE keep them from thinking about sex - ESPECIALLY sex of 'THAT KIND'.
Honestly, WHAT THE F*CK?!?!?

TFan - help me understand your point.
Because they don't have underage children, they don't see a problem with violence, but are completely turned off by homosex and the 'F-word'?

Posted: 11/28/09 at 11:18pmWell, I certainly agree that they're corrupt, but I'm still not getting what the parameter of different-age children has to do with it?

They choose what is appropriate for each age frame & in what context.
Have you ever seen the movie 'This Film is Not Yet Rated'?

TFan - no I haven't, but I've wanted to. Maybe it will make some things clearer.
Mind you, I'm not SURPRISED by this situation - it's been screwed since the beginning - but having just sat through yet another blood-soaked, violence laden flick rated PG-13, I needed to vent!
I used to run a movie theater, and it was a daily occurance to have parents ask why something was rated 'R'. If it was violence, no problem - they bought them tickets and sent them on their merry way. If it was sex - forget it. And frequently, a rant of some sort accompanied their disgust.

Posted: 11/28/09 at 11:44pmI just watched "This Film is Not Yet Rated". It was ok but really didn't live up to what I thought it would be. However, it is worth watching.
