Mary Poppins is stocked with Christ imagery. She is obviously meant to represent Jesus or some sort of deity.

Um...actually the Bert thing was a romantic storyline that P.L. Travers forced Disney to drop, so unless you wanna call Bert the Mary Magdelene figure, that doesn't quite work either.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't get that from Mary Poppins at all. "Chronicles of Narnia" yes, Mary Poppins, no.

More proof that Poppins is supposed to be Christ:

JC had a popular book written about his life
Poppins had a series of books written about her life

JC was a musical that lost the Tony
MP was a musical that lost the Tony

JC flew off the handle in a song called The Temple near the end of Act I
MP flies holding onto a handle (umbrella) and has a song called Temper, Temper near the end of Act I

JC has been the source of much debate amongst many theologians
MP has been the source of much debate amongst many BWW'ers.

Coincidence? You decide.
