#1Musical for a cast smaller than 9
Posted: 5/10/11 at 11:37pmI'm looking for a musical that is family appropriate but is still good and has more female roles than male roles. Any ideas?

What age range are we talking here?
If high school or older, The Spitfire Grill would be perfect for you.
Six roles, 3 female, 2 male, one non-speaking male role. And the female roles are considerably larger than the male roles.

Tick, Tick...BOOM!
You're A Good Man Charlie Brown.
Lucky Stiff.
Edges.
Songs For A New World.
Chicago.
Pippin.
Hope that helps.

Spelling Bee isn't "family appropriate"
But if it's viable, you can certainly cast girls as Leaf and maybe Mitch

But Charlie Brown is 4 men, 2 women.
Unless you have a girl play Snoopy, which I hate.
Lucky Stiff is 10 - 4 women, 6 men.

I'd say take a look at A Year With Frog and Toad. It's a cast of 5, typically 3 guys (Frog, Toad, Snail), and two women (Mouse and Turtle). However, I've seen it done with just the 2 guys playing Frog and Toad, and girls playing all of the other parts.
