OEDIPUS Previews Nov 6 2025, 07:46:36 AM
This was excellent last night, loved it in London and so had to see it again here. Im glad I did, but some very frustrating things took me out of it. A horribly loud squealing hearing aide for the first 15 minutes (could tell it was frustrating a lot of audience members), then the woman behind who kept talking because she didn’t understand the show (she left after 45 mins), a phone going off - we seemed to have it all. And for a show like this - you need silence.

LIBERATION by Bess Wohl to open at the James Earl Jones theatre in October Sep 23 2025, 07:46:10 PM
What was better was the $19.70 tickets in person! Waited an hour in the line to get but a bargain (back of the mezz).

100% Agreed on this. It would make a great musical.

West End OEDIPUS To Transfer To Broadway Mar 6 2025, 02:22:01 PM
Exceptional theatre. One of the best things I saw last year. Should be coming over as an Olivier winner for Manville and Revival.

I did and got Mezz 4 row C centre (the "other side" of the theatre). In the end I cancelled the ticket because Adam called out and I got a late rush for Death Becomes Her - Row B of the RMezz which was a great view."
How did you get your late rush for DBH? And how late did you get it?

Jesse Green: They Were Hits in London. Then They Got Smacked in New York. Jan 12 2025, 05:24:18 AM
EricMontreal22 said: "I'm wondering about Broadway hits that have been UK flops. This article (which, as others have said, in the end seems to just be a cop out "meh, it's all personal taste") does mention that a number of straight plays have been hits in NY but not in London (though they mostly name playwrights and not which specific plays--I'd be curious which Terrence McNally and Wendy Wasserstein plays Green meant, for example.) But not musicals.

LEFT ON TENTH Reviews Jan 5 2025, 06:52:12 AM
Saw the matinee Thursday. Surprisingly enjoyed it a lot - front row rush for $45. Thought Julianna Margulies was wonderful. I described the play to a friend as being "utterly charming whilst kinda depressing" - but I thought it all came together quite well.
The Mezz and Balcony were open but damn they were nearly empty (maybe 15 people in the balcony?), although the Orch was pretty full.

For anyone who went this evening, just wondering how accurate the three hour listed runtime is?

London in 2 weeks… Oct 10 2024, 06:08:49 AM
“Giant” is exceptional and I’d say a frontrunner for the Olivier. I’d also recommend Benjamin Button for a small intimate musical. I haven’t seen it yet, but “The Fear of 13” at the Donmar is getting great word of mouth (sold out aside from returns and daily release).
You can do yourself a favour and avoid the new revival of Juno and the Paycock - it’s extremely dull.

Article: OPERATION MINCEMEAT... plots its course to New York Oct 1 2024, 10:24:59 AM
Limited run? It's only so they can announce their many inevitable extensions if it catches on, which I hope it does because it's a brilliant show.

Marlow & Moss' SIX follow-up, WHY AM I SO SINGLE? musical, heads to the West End Sep 3 2024, 03:52:45 AM
TalksAboutBruno said: "Any words from the first previews? Really enjoyed the promo single they have been pushing."
I found the score to be very good overall and the two lead performances were strong. It’s funny, with laugh out loud moments all the way through. Act one goes at a nice pace and act two starts well but some real work needed to improve the pacing because act two drags and drags. They could do with cutting a good 10-15 minutes, some are either unnece

Welch’s GATSBY to premiere in 2024 ART Jul 18 2024, 06:30:26 PM
Sorry but are you wanting the opinion of someone who actually lives in the UK or not? It is NOT studied in schools here, and it is certainly not one of those books that everybody has read. My only exposure to "The Great Gatsby" before seeing the Broadway production in April was the 2013 film. I since read the book after seeing that production (same with Outsiders, which I had never even heard of until the musical was announced). Mention "Great Gatsby" here,

Welch’s GATSBY to premiere in 2024 ART Jul 18 2024, 05:26:17 PM
"Excuse me if this is a dumb question, but is The Great Gatsby as significant in London as it is in the US? "
No, it is not. I think most people only really know of it from the 2013 film adaptation.
I caught this yesterday. Refreshed the website at around 12:20 and there was some $85 tix available for the matinee, never bought a ticket so quickly (was in Boston for one day only). Really enjoyed it, definitely darker than the Broadway Gatsby. Thought act two in pa

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES musical will have pre-Bway tryout this summer in Boston Jul 17 2024, 11:44:56 PM
Loved it. Kristin is wonderful, absolutely perfect. I actually really liked the score, and having not been familiar with the documentaries or real life subjects, I found the story easy to follow and really interesting.
Act one is 1:25. Act two 1:05, and with an almost 30 minute interval and 5 mins late starting, my last photos from the bows are time stamped at 11:06. Sure there’s trims to be made but I doubt this goes much below 2:40.

West End Transfer Likelihood of 2024 Tony Award Best Musical Nominees Jul 1 2024, 04:38:10 AM
1) Hell's Kitchen
2) The Outsiders
3) Illinioise (but to Sadler's Wells)
4) Water for Elephants (I doubt we see a replica production)
5) Suffs (too similar in themes to "Sylvia")
I actually think more likely than any of these, is a transfer of The Notebook.
