"At a quarter to clam pie, I emceed a posh Broadway-type benefit and obscenely got to observe all the backstage dramatizing and manicured hand-wringing. The "middle sex" guy from Bombay Dreams (again, I prefer you know) was in a minor snit about the song he was asked to perform, saying, "It's too similar to what I did last time. It's another gay song!" The talented LIZA lady from Boy From Oz was set to belt a BARBRA tune but said she wouldn't want to ever play Babs. ("Another living legend? I'd kill myself.") And ANDREA MCARDLE, who started out as adorable little Annie, admitted she was off to Houston to play Mama Rose in Gypsy! For synchronicity's sake, BERNADETTE PETERS should next play Annie. I always thought she should anyway."

What was "hilarious" about this column? It was poorly written--it avoids the specifics of the situation (it never tells who sponsored the event or where it was held), it misapplies the word "posh" (it was held at Joe's Pub, not the Waldorf Astoria, and blacks ties weren't required) and makes that poor fellow from BIMBI DREAMS seem like an idiot.
"Hilarious" is the last act of Neil Simon's RUMOURS.
"Hilarious" is the second act of NOISES OFF.
"Hilarious" is the opening poker game in THE ODD COUPLE.
"Hilarious" is Carol Channing doing her impersonation of Ethel Merman on an airplane.
"Hilarious" is Ethel Merman hitting people with her handbag in I'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, Mad WORLD>
"Hilarious" is NOT Musto.

Never thought I'd ever agree with DP on much of anything, but I don't think Musto is hysterical, hilarious or brilliant. I think he is funny in a "tongue-in cheek" kind of "inside the theater world" humor.
His humor is quick, witty, silly and timely but that's about it. He makes a great MC or host, in that he doesn't ham too much but is a good segway into the acts. He was just right for the BW event. Again, this is my opinion among others.

Three hours of drinking and then posting messages on the internet?
Hmm....sounds like the night Corine started spewing all that profanity.
Sad. Terribly sad.

A Segway is one of them there fancy new scooters that will one day revolutionize this country. Given the rising gas prices, it may happen sooner rather than later.

Posted: 5/30/04 at 6:03pmThe very thought of PatiB (that's what her theater pals call her!) dashing about Philly on her new Segway scooter is enough to make me plotz!

Posted: 5/30/04 at 8:37pmWhich image? PatiB on her scooter or me plotzing? Surely you don't imply that I would plotz on a scooter!
#15re: Musto, you beeyitch!
Posted: 6/1/04 at 10:06amLOL! What an imagination! The things you read when you come back home! Dolly, dear, I would ride a segway scooter just to see you plotz.( sorry, being a lady, I am not familiar with that term, but I'm sure it's common to you!). :)

Posted: 6/1/04 at 4:29pm"Plotzing" is a Yiddish expression that is very common in the New York area. You claim to spend quite a bit of time in the Big Apple, therefore I was sure you were familiar with it.
#17re: Musto, you beeyitch!
Posted: 6/1/04 at 5:10pmI spend time in a lot of areas besides NYC. Guess I don't hang with plotzy people. Also, I don't make claims about myself...I leave that to others! Besides I'm not Jewish ...and you still didn't answer my question. But you seem in your normal pithy mood...so drop it!

I'm not Jewish either. However, we New Yorkers all pick up Yiddish phrases because they're so colorful. You don't have to be Jewish to "schlep". And everyone in New York knows what a "mensch" is. We also frequently refer to "the whole Magilla" even when it isn't Purim.
Therefore, gentle PatiB, don't even try to "plotz". It's something that's acquired--like good taste.
#19re: Musto, you beeyitch!
Posted: 6/1/04 at 8:37pmDollypop's right -- even though we're goyim, we can spot a mensch from 1000 feet and know when someone like you is totally meschuginah.

Posted: 6/2/04 at 9:38amSurely PatiB can find a good kosher deli in the rarified air of Philadelphia. Perhaps if she stopped in for a hearty bowl of matzohball soup or a good chicken-in-the-pot, she'd become a bit more Yiddish-friendly.

hey! I've had many biz lunches at the Cafe Edison Hotel with the famed matzohball soup. Dined there with Elliot Forrest from Walkin Broadway not long ago. As well as the fabulous corned beef at Katz's Deli in SOHO and the Jewish pickles at Celebrities. Any more Jewish food and I'll be singing "Tradition" with an M&M cap on my head! OYE!
I think I can live without "plotzing". Just don't take away my Hershey's chocolate.

Hey Paticakes, don't knock "plotzing" until you're tried it!
