My Cat is kind of a newcomer to Broadway show tunes. He doesn't like crowds so he's never been to a show, but he listens to a lot of show tunes and loves movie musicals. "Sound of Music" is his favorite (He's a big R&H fan) and "My Favorite Things" is his favorite song.
So we're watching TV the other night and suddenly- "My Favorite Things" starts up- it's in a commercial. For Dove Shampoo. Only the lyrics have been rewritten so it's about the shampoo. My cat is outraged. He storms up to the TV and begins batting the screen as if to say "No! No! No!"
Obviously, he's mad that they took the pro-cat, anti dog message of the tune and co-opted it to sell shampoo of all things- a product he has absolutely no use for. I have tried to explain to him about heirs and song copyrights and monetarizing the assets of a corporation, but all he knows is that his favorite song has been stripped of meaning and is being prostituted to sell hair products.
SO how can I explain this to him? Any ideas? Right now he's pacing, his tail whipping back and forth. I hate to see him like this. He's acting angry but I know inside he's hurt. Very hurt.
