Gorgeous. Listened to the whole thing last night.
Love Lorna and I am glad she is passing the legacy on. I just sometimes wonder about some of her choices. Did she really need to endorse that awful Rufus thing? I guess we all make mistakes.
Question. Will this be available here in the states? Can I go down to Barnes and Noble,Borders, or Target and pick up a copy? I am assuming the price is so high because its not a major label. (I could be wrong) By the way PalJoey, that Footlight websiter is amazing. Never heard of it til you mentioned it. So, I'm holding you responsible for all the cd's I'm gonna have to buy now!!! (for the record, I wouldn't even know about the cd if it were not for this post. Thanks!)
Lorna's choices are Lorna's choices.
She (and Liza too) have made many WORSE choices in their lives than choosing to endorse someone who, misguided or not, was bringing Judy's music to a new generation of fans.
As Sondheim wrote, "The choice may have been mistaken but choosing was not. You keep moving on."
But Lorna gets slammed for WHATEVER she chooses. She gets slammed for Not Having Ever Become a Star, for not having had a Star Is Born or a Cabaret. She gets slammed for being a good wife, a good mother, a good co-parent with her her ex-husband and a working performer for all of her adult life.
It's time to stop slamming her. She chooses what she thinks is right and she shows up and she gives 100%, sometimes more. If that's not enough for anyone by this point in her life, they can just get over it.
I know that Mama would be very proud of Miss Lorna...She sounds Great!!!!
Hear, hear, Joe! Lorna is an immense talent who hasn't had an easy time forging a career in the shadows. But somehow, through it all, and against all odds, she's remained a down-to-earth, truly NICE person.
PJ. I am not intending to slam her in any way. Your right..EVERYONE makes bad choices. Love Lorna.. and next time she is appearing locally I will be getting tickets.
I do think she should have been wise enough not to be a part of the Rufus debacle. ( If anyone is being introduced to Judy music for the first time through Rufus... well I just think that is a tragedy). But that is just my opinion for whatever little it is worth.
Lorna will not be doing any more shows with Rufus.
She was also hoping that he could bring her music to a new generation, and I guess he did, just not the way Judy would have done it.
*Edit..Can't spell it Jusy!*
Yes.. from what I hear she also recognizes the Rufus thing was a mistake. Glad the cd is out and that people will be exposed to this gorgeous material in the right way.
Dame--the sales of Capitol's "Judy at Carnegie Hall" spiked both times Rufus did his show in the United States. I checked on amazon.com.
That is excellent. Again.. I did not mean to slam her. She was thrilling at the Bowl and I am happy that both her and her sister are having career resurgences.
Rufus.. still sucked.. But I will stop beating a dead horse.
Also... If anyone went back and bought the Judy cd after the Hollywood Bowl show.... I think it had more to do with Lornas glorious performance than anything Rufus wrecked on stage. I am telling you.. people who did not know who Lorna was were wanting to know. I was standing at the record store at the exit of Bowl that evening.. and if Lornas cd would have been on sale it would have sold out.
It's on iTunes for $9.99.
Thanks, Patronus!
