I'm so excited! I just got an e-mail from my friend Mara Davi that she's been cast as Maggie in the revival of A Chorus Line! I am so happy and thrilled for her! She is such a sweetheart. (And YOUNG!)
We did George M! together a couple of years ago (she was Josie), and then she left to do the non-union tour of 42nd Street, playing Peggy Sawyer of course, (she came to see me as Dorothy in the Welk production this summer), and then she went Equity when she got cast in White Christmas, (understudying Judy), and now this! Yay, Mara!
The pic is of the cast of George M! Mara's on the far left, and I'm on the far right. =)

And he said, "Mara, do you want to dance?"
That's amazing! Congratulations Mara!
YAY! CONGRATULATIONS!

That's great! At the Ballet is one of my favorite songs. I live in SF and plan on seeing the show - probably more than once - I will yell loudly for her!

congrats to both of you on your upcoming roles.
Now, you ARE going to get all of us in backstage, right?
That is so great!!

I know, isn't it great? I can't wait to go see her in it... I'll probably wait 'til it goes to Broadway and see it there.
It's funny, 'cause "At The Ballet" was always my favorite song from the score as well (I used to sing Sheila's part in my room - I've always had a low voice), and when Maggie would sing, "at the BALLET!!!!!!!" that was my absolute favorite part. Well, then I got cast in Paint Your Wagon out here at the Geffen Playhouse, and our choreographer was Kay Cole, and it didn't even click with me that she was the original Maggie that I used to worship when I was little until about 2 weeks into rehearsal. At which time I became a silly babbling fool for about 10 minutes.
Anyway, it's a great show, and I'm so happy for Mara!

I can't even explain how much I'm looking forward to this revival, and now that there's just a little bit of connection and personal awareness, it will be that much more special.
And Erika, I just want to say how much I love having you contribute here - the perspective of a real working professional is invaluable to young people here who may have no other way to find out what it's really like. Thanks!
DG, I love how you always seem to say what I'm thinking, but about 10 times more eloquently.
Congrats to your compadre, Erika. It makes me SO happy when I hear of talented, deserving people winning these sorts of roles! If she's even HALF as talented as you are, she'll be a force of nature onstage, I'm sure!
erika---I met Kay years ago out here as well. I did the same thing, where suddenly it dawned on me after several days of talking with her and seeing her around... and I did the same "babbling fool" bit. I have no idea what nonsense came out of my mouth right then.
And she couldn't have been nicer about it! Such a sweetheart!
Congrats to your friend on Maggie, as well. Very exciting!
That's excellent, Erika. When I see the show it'll be even cooler now that I know someone who knows someone...

best12bars - Phew! I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one!
JailyardGuy: Awwwwwwwww...that's so sweet! And yes, she's extremely talented. Not only can she can sing her face off, but she's a BOMB dancer.
DG and shameless - Thank you so much! I'm actually kind of verklemped now! :-P
Congrats to your friend! Maggie gets to big "At the Ballet!" note!

That's wonderful! :)
Erika, I would also like to add to DG's sentiments about how great it is to read your posts here. You share so much positives about your experiences and support for those who you work with, in a business that can seemingly be so cut-throat, it's really refreshing to read some of your posts
You mean the revival of A CHORUS LINE? That's amazing!! Congratulations to her!

I was fortunate enough to see the original cast in 1975 (I was 7) ((I am lying)). I saw it 7 times. (I am not lying) ((and have the programs and stubs to prove it)).
Yeah,

Congratulations A CHORUS LINE the longest running AMERICAN Musical ever and (IMHO) the greatest musical ever.

That's awesome! I would love to play Maggie, she's my favorite character. Well, at least "At the Ballet" is my favorite song from the production.
