there is another thread about last night's episode, but as it has just a period as it's title, it will be deleted. Post your comments in this thread. I posted the following in the soon-to-be-deleted thread.
_________________________________________________________________
definitely a tear-jerker
*Debby telling Michael in the hospital "you'd better f*cking pull through you little shi*" (not sure of exact words)
*Brian walking through Babylon, calling Justin's name over and over and finally finding him and putting his arms around him.
*Melanie in bed w/ the baby, pulling back the covers and asking Lindsay to bring her son to bed and all of them laying together and Mel and Lindsey leaning towards each other.
*Brian telling Justin that he tried to call him on his cell phone when he heard about the bombing. Justin didn't answer and Brian said he was so fuc*ing scared. And then he told Justin he loved him and they kissed over and over.
I watched it again this afternoon...so powerful and moving and gut-wrenching. Probably the most compelling QAF episode of all time.
What I've been thinking all day is that there are people out there who would love to see this happen. You know the ones. On one hand they cry about babies being murdered yet say that Matthew Shephard got what he deserved. It makes me furious. Sick bastards. But I've got news for you people. We're not going to let fear rule our lives. I'd rather be struck down in the prime of my life, living it to the fullest than to live my life constantly looking over my shoulder or staying hidden in the closet afraid to be the person I was meant to be. Not going to happen.

VERY heavy episode, the tears (and the martinis) were a-flowing.
Thou earlier this season, even Mr Magoo could see Mel & Lindsey getting back together, and some 'life-altering event' on the horizon making Brian change his ways.

It finally happened! I've been waiting for 5 seasons for Brian to tell Justin that he loves him...I couldn't have been happier at the end of last night's episode. I actually had tears in my eyes...it was a beautiful scene. The whole episode last night was probably the bright spot in a season that has been, at least in my opnion, trying way to hard to make a political statement rather than just be the trashy soap opera we all know and love.
However, as happy as I was to see Brian finally say I Love You to Justin...I do think blowing up Babylon was a pretty radical thing to do to bring out the confession. He didn't tell Justin he loved him after he saw him get bashed in the head with a baseball bat so why should we believe that he would do so after being afraid Justin was caught in an explosion...Maybe I just read too much into TV shows...

no you're not reading to much into it. it's just one of the many examples of why this is such a poorly written show...

Posted: 7/18/05 at 10:29pmI never miss an episode but I have to say the writing is awful. I do love the characters though. Emmett is my favorite. Everything that happens is so predictable and over the top, it's laughable. I'll miss watching though. (Michael ewww).

The fact that everything that happens in the show is predictable and over-the-top was part of its charm in the beginning I think. It's a soap opera...and a really trashy, melodramatic one at that. I miss the days of wacky storylines and gratuitous sex scenes. Now it seems that all the writers care about is making a huge statement about gay rights rather than writing a fun storyline. I'm all for same sex marriages, but having Brian, who notoriously hates the concept of marriage and monogamy, decide to marry Justin to make a political statement is ridiculous. Its storylines like that that make the show so awful lately
That being said...of course I still watch =)

Posted: 7/19/05 at 12:21amI like the show, but it's kind'a disconcerting that everyone is going to end up in a relationship. I mean, really. Not every person, let alone every gay male and female, is in a relationship.

Heh, that was my reaction too. I gave up expecting anything from this trainwreck years ago, but about Season 3, they turned from trasy soap into a Big Gay After-School Special.
The only character I didn't hate from the beginning was Brian, but they've managed to destroy him, especially since he finally told Justin he loved him. I mean, ew, they only did that because that's what all sappy fans have been waiting for since episode 2, so for writers completely change everything a character is and stands for (over the course of 2 shows) just to appease their fanbase is ridiculous.
Aw, Brian can't donate blood because he's gay, isn't that horrible? Meanwhile, neither can anyone that has been born in or had sex with someone from all of western Africa since 1977, but Cameroon doesn't have it's own TV show with holier-than-thou writers to lecture us, now does it?

Posted: 7/19/05 at 3:22amI'm wondering: have you all seen the original British QAF? To say it's infinitely better than the American counterpart would still not do it justice. The British QAF is still one of the best things I've ever seen on TV.

I've seen the original British version and it's easy to see why they wanted to make an American version of it. It's a very good show. The thing that gets me about "Queer as Folk" on Showtime is that it should have decided from the get go what it wanted to be. Was it going to be a serious drama focusing on issues important and relevant to the gay and lesbian community within a dramatic context or was it going to be a big trashy soap opera. It chose the latter and to all of a sudden try to switch gears is laughable.

Sigh... I can't believe I missed this episode. It better be on limewire quick. (And yes, I'm one of those sappy people who have been waiting for Brian to drop the L-bomb since episode 2..)
But I do know that it's a poorly written, trashy soap opera. Part of the reason I love it so much. The characters and the general idea is good... it's just the execution that needs work. Ah well. I'll take what I can get.

I miss the UK version- so good. Solid writing, great acting.
I can't stand the US version. The writing is bland and unaffecting, and the acting is SO dull. I've never understood the casting of Gale Harold as Brian. I didn't buy him as "the hottest guy in Pittsburgh" for a second. Now, Aiden Gillen as Stewart in the UK version, on the other hand, oozed confidence and sexuality in a way that made him magnetic.
These boys (and girls) all pale in comparison.

Heck, I didn't buy there was a gay scene in Pittsburgh for a second. Why don't the producers just come out of the closet and admit it's Toronto??

Posted: 7/19/05 at 10:33amYeah, I never got why Pittsburgh was the local. I think they wanted a blue-collar working class setting, but this is the US, not the UK, and something set in a more interesting locale would have made for a slightly better show.

Posted: 7/20/05 at 3:18pmI don't believe for a second that anyone watched this show because they thought it was amazing. It's a guilty pleasure. I loved every minute of it, sans the lesbian sex scenes. I for one am going to miss it when it's no longer on.
