Does anyone know what the story is about these two. They're hot science nerds who live in San Francisco. Are they a couple or what?

Their online bios say that they're both happily married (and not to each other). I don't know if Jamie Hyneman has any kids but Adam Savage (who often mentions his wife on the show) is the father of twin boys.

Silly question, but here's more info on their relationship. This should clear things up for you. From a NYT article:

They are, in fact, so different that Mr. Hyneman said, “We don’t even like each other.” Although they have worked together for 13 years, they don’t socialize: “We don’t hang out with each other any more than we have to.”

At the same time, he said, their differences allow them to approach each problem from a different perspective. “I find myself feeling out of balance or awkward without him there to bounce things off of,” he said.>
