What does his sexuality, or anyone's have to do with anything? Would the end results have been different if he was straight? So stupid for people to focus on this nonsense.
If a person is gay or straight - that tells you absolutely NOTHING about them...are they a good person, are they a kind person, do they have morals, etc.....

Posted: 8/24/08 at 7:41pmI don't NBC has an antigay bias because of this but as someone pointed out, he was on the cover of The Advocate before the games because of the fact that hes one of very few openly gay olympians. It's a big deal, being a gay athlete is almost unheard of (except for a few sports where you're more surprised when one of the male athletes are straight, like figure skating, and i say that as a former figure skater). I think it deserved a mention. I hate to say that we need to "prove ourselves" (because i don't think we actual do) but the world (and especially redneck, bigoted americans) realizing that Homosexuals win gold medals just like heterosexuals is an important thing. I mean they make big deals when people of racial minorities win a medal in something for the first time, why is a(n openly) gay athlete not worthy of the same note.

yep. a gay diver is unheard of. a gay diver winning a gold medal has probably never happened. ever. i mean this could have really been breaking the surface here. why was greg louganis not on hand to do interviews to compare it to his experience?
"now, greg, we know you were deep in the closet when you were winning medals so how does this out and proud gay man's experience compare to yours?"

Posted: 8/25/08 at 12:48amI don't think anyone was really suggesting that they do an "Advocate Interview" with him. I think the ordeal is over whether or not NBC or whoever could treat us equally by simply and benignly including a gay athlete's partner the same as they would a straight athlete's partner--whether it be shots of loved ones in the crowd or biographical footage of some kind. That's all. And that simple inclusion then does become an example--a statement--now, but hopefully one day will be no big deal. As it should be.

Of course, it has nothing to do with the games. It's about treating gay athletes equally and if you cut out this one's boyfriend and show the rest of the guys' girlfriends and wives, you are discriminating.
As people are pointing out, NBC has apparently not engaged in a double standard.
