Description
NOAH’S GAY WEDDING CRUISE
About the artwork:
I made this painting for an exhibit called “Sweet & Low: Optimism in a Pessimistic Age” at Gallery Arcane in San Francisco. The recent passage of Proposition 8 and the subsequent efforts of Ken Starr (and some other dastardly cohorts) to break apart marriages in the name of family values certainly inspire pessimism. However, I’ve been so incredibly moved by demonstrations across the country in support of marriage equality, and I believe we’re on the cusp of great progress. I chose to symbolize our inevitable victory with my own version of the Noah’s Ark story, complete with some drowning sinners (including Ann Coulter, Larry Craig, Sally Kern, Fred Phelps, and even Pat Boone!), and a grand ark/cruise ship filled with happy gay and lesbian animal couples and a few famous human guests too (such as Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Elton John and David Furnish, and Rosie O’Donell and Kelli Carpenter). Even the fictional cowboys from Brokeback Mountain get another shot at love in this epic re-telling of a biblical classic! As the clouds begin to part, a heavenly rainbow appears in the sky to remind hopeful voyagers that full legal recognition and acknowledgement of same-sex love is just over the horizon.

I would think the Noah's Ark allusion just adds fuel to the fire.

When did Hillary Clinton and Delta Burke get married?

Also, I'm not too keen that the male couple represented on the deck are fictional characters. Played by straight people.
Very distasteful and not the right message to be sending. (& I'm gay FYI)
Not to mention puppets... PUPPETS.... REALLY?

I understand why he'd bring the Flamingos, but really, where are the peacocks?
I love it! I think it's hilarious.
Especially Ernie and Bert.
Those 2 guys in the next porthole to the right look like the Men In Black.
i think this is probably the single most important piece of gay art produced in the last sixty years.
I agree papa. Think of all the closeted children who will draw courage and strength from seeing this.
It really is ok to be gay.
I expect to see a significant decrease in teen depression after this get more publicity.

Looks like Clay Aiken screwed Rosie and then threw up on a canvas.
I love this thread.

Has anyone actually bought one?
I agree that this is the single most important gay art in the last 60 years... which clearly isn't saying much. Funny at first, then with any deep thought about future outcomes... well... yeah.
I thought Noah Wylie got married on a gay cruise!
mmmm...Noah Wylie
