NPH says 'No More Cast Party At The Magic Castle' WTF?

I really don’t understand why, or what NPH is thinking, but he’s cutting off his nose to spite his face.

Jim Caruso’s CAST PARTY has been playing to packed houses at the Magic Castle in Hollywood for over a year now. But, for some odd reason, NPH has put his foot down and demanded that the shows no longer take place there. He has stated that he has disliked the idea of booking music at The Magic Castle from the very beginning.

The castle has been dying off slowly due to lack of interest, and the CAST PARTY had been pulling in loads of new, young people. I just don’t understand how NPH can be a supporter of musicals, but not want this very popular show playing there.

Well, isn't the Magic Castle suppose to be about, I dunno, MAGIC? (Admittedly, I don't really know a heck of a lot about it or the show in question.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Well, I can see both sides of this. It is supposed to be about magic but as Diva said interest has been dwindling. Especially in "traditional" magic with people like Chris Angel being all "Mindfreaky"

As much as it pains the people who are serious about keeping the Magic Castle "elite" if magic alone cannot sustain the building bringing in other acts should not be looked down upon.

There has to be a happy medium here.

I have a question. For cast party is their strict dress code relaxed any? In general the cast party is a fairly casual event - does the Castle bend for this at all?

In case Phyllis isn't kidding:

Neil Patrick Harris is the President of Academy of Magical Arts Board of Directors (see my first post for a link to the MC website). Against his better judgement he started to allow musical acts such as Cast Party to perform at a venue that has been magic only for a long time. Now he's saying he doesn't want to allow that anymore. He wants the Magic Castle to be for magicians only.

I forgot to mention that this is a private club so only members and their guests can attend any of the events being held at the Castle. Also, in regards to my previous dress code question - their code is fairly strict. Gowns/coat & tie for evening events.

This brings up another question for me. Were they allowing non-members to attend Cast Party? If not then it seems to me that the members have spoken regarding whether they want Cast Party there or not.

Diva,
Isn't there a better room in town for Cast Party? The thing with the castle is that it is not accessible to most people. You have to know someone to get access. A little elitist. There has to be a better room in town.

Thanks, Eris. I really didn't know what this was about. I thought Cast Party was a play or something.

So Neil Patrick Harris has all the power at this place? Good on him, I guess.

I think they need to take it to the Cinegrill.

The Magic Castle is run down and tacky. These Cast Party events were fun and anyone who bought a ticket could go.

Maybe NPH should try some of his card tricks the next time he hosts the Tonys.

Gotcha - thanks for the clarification. Then it may be that NPH is bowing to the members wishes. I guess there's no way for us to know how the members felt about the Cast Party being there. As Diva said - one would think that NPH would be suppotive of an event such as this. But, as President of the Board he has to listen to the opinions of others.

Does this mean that there will be NO musical performances there at all now? I remember Natalie Toro did two shows there a few years ago. Is this kibosh on everything or just Cast Party?
