Hi all,
I am planning on attending the northshore music theaters 2008 audition in a few weeks. The show I am most interested in that they are doing is BYE BYE BIRDIE. I need to prepare an uptempo song. Most of the songs I am using in lessons are belt-y. I do not think of belt-y when I think bye bye birdie. I assume I will be looked at for either kim or one of the other teens ( I am 20 ) I really want to nail the singing portion because dancing is not my forte lol
can anyone think of a fun soprano uptempo song? I was thinking "its a perfect relationship" from bells are ringing, but i'm not sure.
If anyone would like information on these auditions feel free to message me1

Maybe He Plays the Violin from 1776, So in Love from Kiss me Kate or Tom from Hello Again (its in the Audra McDonald Way Back to Paradise songbook) the latter being the best choice. They're all in a soprano mix...
Idk if you've been there, but NSMT is an absolutely fantastic place to work! The whole staff is really nice, as are their studios and facilities. PM me if you want to know what their auditions are like. Good luck and have fun!!!

hey guys thanks for the advice!
Juliash, I grew up in Beverly so I am very familiar with NSMT, I have not done any shows with them yet though. Any advice you might have is VERY welcome. I have heard that the singing portion will not be too bad but the dancing is grueling. Which sucks for me haha. I can def pull of choreography but its nothing to boast about.
what do you think?

Yeah the dance auditions tend to be much more intense. Just make sure you go really really warmed up and don't be afraid to ask questions. I have no idea who is choreographing Bye Bye Birdie, but in my experience they have been really good about answering specific questions and going over things a couple times.
Plus that's what they always tell the kids in their YPA about dance auditions. :)
That's cool I'm from the Tritown area just about 15 minutes away!! I freaking love massachusetts :)

hahaha you and me both :) Everytime I travel I am always so happy to be back in mass.
thanks for the dance info...but you didnt make me feel any better hahaha. ( just kidding ) I hope that singing counts for a GOOD chunk of the audition. Even if I end up being teenager #12 I would be very happy just to be involved.
Still torn on audition songs. I listened to all of the ones you suggested. I like them all! I would love to sing something that you dont hear all of the time. Some of my favorite songs are not that popular.

If it helps, they really really like belters even sometimes in roles that aren't traditionally belted. So you might want something where you can show everything off.
Singing does count for a lot there and I am living proof of that because I've only ever taken ballet and not very much of it.
They also really like it if you're bubbly, so smile A LOT. Even if it feels ridiculous.
