It's been five years since the 2003 blackout. August 14, 2003.

Quite a snapshot of the era, actually. Close enough to 9/1l to give us the heebeejeebies about terorism, but then, once fears were displaced, a party night that harked back to a festive pre-9/11 New York City atmosphere. I'd only moved out of NY a year before, and in that day, was trapped in the city and ended up having a wonderful, memorable time.
This got "Blackout" from ITH stuck in my head.
Auggie, that was my experience, too.
Took a bottle of champagne from the non-working fridge and went to the park--with my portable DVD player! I was very popular.
But trying to sleep with no AC or fan was less fun.
BLACKOUT! BLACKOUT!
Nina where'd you go... has anyone seen Bennyyyyy
we are powerless... :)
great song. want to go back to ITH soon.
I can't find Usnavi!
Look at the fireworks!
There was an article in the newspaper today about how we now should be more prepared for things like this. Like it said that we could have another one, but bigger, and our use of electricity is expected to go up.
I was in NYC in 1977 when they had a HUGE blackout. It was very sad and disturbing to see all the looting that was going on.
That was what was so great about the 2003 one. There was very little.

This thread title brought ITH to mind for me as well.
"The blackout goes on and on..."
I was one of the fortunate ones. I was home sitting on the couch watching Trading Spaces. True story.
Was anyone stuck in the subway or an elevator? Those are probably the worst places to get stuck in in a blackout.
