Posted: 5/28/06 at 7:08pmI dance at BDC and it's the best place. I'm young (14), which is pretty much the youngest age for open classes, so most of the time I'm the youngest one there, but all of the adults are so nice and the teachers are great. Also, there are just SO MANY CLASSES. It's so easy to fit them in to any schedule.

BUMP
I recently just cut down on the classes at my hometown dance studio in order to come to the city every saturday. I've taken a few tap and theater classes at Broadway Dance Center. I tried STEPS for the first time this weekend and took a modern, tap, and a theater class. I really loved it. Does anyone have a preference between BDC and STEPS? If so, why?

Posted: 11/13/06 at 12:33amBroadway Dance Center and STEPS both have amazing faculty on board. Broadway Dance Center seems really "NEW" and well STEPS is my ideal look of a New York Dance Studio. If you are more classically trained in Ballet (Like myself) don't go to Broadway Dance Center for Ballet. STEPS is where the members of NYCBallet & American Ballet Theatre take open classes among Broadway performers. I remember I took a class at 10AM ballet at STEPS and well I noticed this phenomenal MALE dancer, among many but this one stuck out like WOAH!! I didn't know his name or anything but he was superb. Anyways later that night, I went to see the Broadway Show, CONTACT and I recognized a dancer right away - Sean Martin Hingston whom was in my Ballet class earlier that day. It is truly a small world out there, especially in the Performing Arts. So all in All, I go to Broadway Dance Center for Jazz/Theatre Dance and STEPS - Ballet.

Ah and of course there are smaller studios... they all have websites but I can't get all the links (or lazy too)
- Ballet Hispanico of NYC (Ballet, Flamenco and other hispanic dances)
- Dance New Amsterdam (DNA)(Everything!)
- Merce Cunningham Dance Studio (Modern Dance)
- Martha Graham Dance Studio (Modern Dance)
- Peridance Studio (Everything including Yoga, Pilates)
- Ballet Academy East (Ballet)

Thank you very much!
I was watching some of STEPS's ballet classes and wow, they are just amazing. I noticed this one particular guy too, he was wearing little frog underwear! But, WOW, he had to be professional. I took a modern class which I really liked there. I will be taking ballet in a few weeks (not this weekend but the next), I think around 10 am.
I am going to try jazz, theater, and probably a tap class this weekend at BDC. I reaally love their theater class with Monroe! I know she is beg, but it's just so much fun! I'll have to try other teachers as well though.
Thanks for all the tips.

I LOVE Lainie Munro's class. I haven't been able to get back there in a while. Her class is so much fun.
For tap, I would try and get a class with Germaine Salsberg. She's great.

If you don't mind me asking, what level classes do you take dancingthrulife (or anyone else)? We could be in some of the same classes!

I have taken a few rhythm tap classes in the past and I would say that I'm pretty good at Broadway style tap (Beg Int). Do you think her Adv Beg class would be too challenging?
What other teachers do you like? Jazz/Ballet/Theater
