The last place I got my haircut was in Chinatown, and my directions to the stylist was definitely lost in translation. The cost? $7..I shouldn't have expected much.
Fellas, where do you get your haircuts in New York? and how much can I expect to pay if I go to your salon? I don't want to spend much. I never cut a lot off.
But even if you get 80 dollar haircuts, I'd like to know where! and if they did a good job.

Cheap:
I recommend a place I go to on 21st near 7th. I think it's called Style and Smile? Look for the neon sign in the window that says "Igor is Here". lol It's on the north side, and it's one of those places you step down to enter. Love him and his assistants have been good, too. $12 - $13
there's also a barber shop on Christopher (if it's still there) between 7th and the Lortel.
Not as cheap:
Great salon on 30th Ave in Astoria between 34th and 35th st called Gigi's. I pay less than $30 for a great haircut when I need to it be a step above your usual haircut. The place looks like you might spend $50 - $100.

Erik's on 10th Ave between 46th and 47th. $11+ tip and there is hardly ever a wait. They're open 7 days from 7 am to 7 pm.
I have foolproof hair so I don't have to do the whole salon thing. Thank god.

DNB on 23rd and 7th. The stylist, Edge, is fabulous and a whiz with color. I pay about $25 for a haircut and $100 when I do color. And the shampoo girl will give you a massage when she's done, so be sure to tip her, too.
