lovepuppy, book at Hotel @ Times Square now and keep checking back for cheaper rates. A day or two before the rates should drop and you can cancel and rebook. You can cancel without penalty up to 24 hours prior. Thats what I did last time and saved $50 extra dollars. :)

I have stayed at the Travel Inn on 42nd several times and it has always been very affordable and the rooms are nice.

Update:

OK, checked out the Mayfair: doesn't have a room with two double beds, despite great deal including airfare on Priceline. No-go.

Checked out The Hotel @ Times Square: room rates $229 a night but earlier in the ear the rates are in the $100s, the guy said on the phone. So betty, you must have stayed there in the first quarter, whenever you stayed there? He said as we get closer to our trip dates (a week and a half), it will probably sell out so prices are likely to go up, not down. No-go.

Seeing something interesting called The Manhattan at Times Square, which is a Sheraton hotel that looks beautiful and surprisingly low priced deals on one of the travel sites. Opinions, friends...?

Also, wondering about a hotel called The Moderne, and also about another Apple Core hotel called The New York Manhattan Hotel, on 32nd. Is that out of the realm of safety on the grid??? Thanks!!
