There is no minimum gpa for Tisch, or for any of the other colleges at NYU. They will recalculate your gpa to include your core academic subjects, then look at that and the courses you took, your school profile, your test scores, etc. and then all of that, plus your audition will be considered.
bwlvsong, the way NYU usually breaks it down is like this:
4.0 = 93 - 100% (A+/A)
3.7 = 90 - 92% (A-)
3.3 = 87 - 89% (B+)
3.0 = 83 - 86% (B)
but like I said, they'll look at your core subjects and also your school profile to see exactly where your gpa falls.

Posted: 11/16/05 at 3:43pmWhen you send your application, NYU will ask your school to complete a form which details your school 'profile'. This includes information about number of students, % which go on to college, what type of courses your school has available for students (AP, Honors, IB, etc.), ranking, gpa calculations, etc. The guidance counsellor will send this in with your transcripts and recs, usually.

Posted: 11/16/05 at 9:57pmThe academic and artistic review are equally weighted for Tisch. So it is possible to not get an offer of admission if your audition isn't good, regardless of your gpa. And the reverse is also true. Tisch does not usually waitlist people. They accept approximately 500 to yield a freshman class of 300 so a waitlist is not really necessary. Not saying they never do, but it's rare because basically they'd need more than 200 who were accepted to say no before they'd go to the waitlist.

Born2c - to look at the opposite side of your comment, i think the fact that i was waitlisted means that i had a good audition AND good academics.
i talked to tisch admissions and they explained their waitlist system to me. in order to be waitlisted, you have to actually be preliminarily accepted into the studio you want to be in. they originally "accept" (as in decide they want, but don't actually send letters out to) as many people as they want. they then go through this list of people who are qualified and decide who fills out their demographics correctly, and these are the people they send the acceptance letters out to.
so even to be waitlisted is a pretty good thing -- that's coming straight from Tisch admissions.

Posted: 11/25/05 at 8:33amEqually weighted means that they consider both reviews equally, academic and artistic. So basically, both have to be good for Tisch. At other schools, the audition is more heavily weighted in the process, e.g., CMU where your audition is somewhere around 90% and academics 10%. UMich has an academic review before you're extended an invitation to audition. Actually, Steinhardt at NYU does this, too. Each school does it a little differently.

Posted: 11/29/05 at 12:03amDoes anyone know of any other schools that have a good percentage concerning GPA, like NYU? I've got a good GPA going for me, and I want to major in Musical Theatre, but sometimes feel like I'm throwing all my Honors/AP course grades away....but I am just wondering how much my grades will help me when applying for musical theatre in college....Please help??

Posted: 11/29/05 at 11:27pmI went to a difficult all-girls high school, but I had a 3.0 GPA and I'm at NYU for the Steinhardt Vocal Performance program. NYU is pretty understanding about the different intelligences. they realize that while you may not be totally book smart, you may be a musical or theatrical genius.
