Name Day!!

Name Day!!

Has anyone heard of this traditon...apparently those crazy Europeans Name Day!! have managed to sneak in more holidays...They have names associated with the dates of the years and one celebrates the date that one's name is associated with, In many countries presents are even given...Now I know this is not celebrated in every country in europe, But I think Americans are missing out big time on this one!!

So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.~Office Space

I've entered several names and they all come up "No"

I suppose sinces it European the name would have to be indiginous to one of the areas which celebrate, My name is Catherine and there are 3 French Days for it, although apparently in Europe your only allowed to pick one day to celebrate if there is more than one, However, this is America and excess is like a religion here!!

nothing for me, it's like key chains in souvenier shops, they always leave out those with rare names. Why do I have less of a right to a mickey mouse magnet with my name on it then someone named Beth?

I always wanted one of those bike license plates. But they NEVER had Byron, always Bryan.

My partner special ordered one for me a few years ago though. But, as a child, I felt deprived re: Name Day!!

Hungarian, Czech, French, Swedish, and Polish! But I have an extremely common name. One of my name days is coming up next week!

My name didn't come up either. I feel your pain, Diva. I always wanted one of those little mugs or keychains or license plates, but they never have my name. Sometimes they have a different spelling of my name, which is worse.

I, too, am a member of the "no cheesy name memorabilia" club.
I can find various items just ONE letter off. I wouldnt know what to do if I actually saw my name!

I do like having a uniquely spelled name, though.

My name day is July 9th in France. And no, I didn't look under Yenta. My name is Marianne and that just happens to be the way they spell it in French.

I have a feeling the Name Day is actually celebrating the feast of the saint you're named after. I know that is an old tradition in some parts of Europe, and I've also heard of countries where you get your saint's feast day off.

Oh...I just read the link (didn't see it before). It tells you about the feast days.

I feel the pain of those who do not get the name memoribilia due to rare names. Dannah is so close to other names--yet so far. I thought it was the greatest thing when in 5th grade our teacher bought us all personalized pencils..mine had my first AND last name on them. It was amazing...

Me too! I remember all my friends got this personalized birthday song record...but not me...they stopped at Tiffany..never went all the way to Wendy. Of course, if your name was Jennifer, you were fine! LOL!
