On this CD (Tavern On the Green) she sings The Promise...and whenever she gets to the line "...I promise you I'll never say goodbye"...I swear her voice cracks just a little - as though she knows this will be her last recorded performance. I can barely get through it, myself.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

So I finally bought "Live at Tavern on the Green" yesterday, and had to bring up this thread again. Oh my, she's so wonderful. My bf was in the car with me, and we listened to it twice. (he's not really into this kind of music, so it says a lot) My forever Nancy Lamott favorite is "Help is On The Way", and her rendition here is so perfect.

Welcome to the fold, Tico. Now that you've experienced the live album, the earlier albums are actually easier, because she wasn't as sick when she recorded those. And if you like the way she does "Help Is on the Way," you'll love "We Can Be Kind" and "The Lady Down the Hall."

Thanks PJ. I actually have her other albums too... I just hadn't gotten around to buying this one. We had a mutual friend, though we never got to meet Nancy personally or see her perform.

Happy happy joy joy

I can't believe I waited this long to buy it.

Hey you, reading this: if you haven't bought the CD, run, don't walk, and get it. I actually found it at Sam Goody, of all places. In a Seattle suburb, at that.

K... did you ever see her perform live? Anyone see her perform live?

Tico
I have had the honor/pleaure of seeing Nancy live many, many times -- at least 50. I was to Tavern during that last run as well.

50 times, K...wow.

My partner and I took my nephew to see her at Tavern. We spoke to her afterward and she claimed to remember me from a brief acquaintance we had had 10 years earlier. Her warmth and self-deprecating humor were so endearing that you wanted to reach out and hug her.

A few weeks? months? (what was it, k?) later, she was gone--and we were so glad we had seen her.

Her "We Can Be Kind" should be an anthem for just about any cause imaginable.

So jealous... as I mentioned before, my partner at the time and I toyed with the idea of going, but for whatever reason didn't. Figured we'd catch her next time.

Part of me gets the happy smile to at least know I was one degree from her.
