Many of you know my adoration and love for Nancy LaMott -- the official release of her Live at Tavern CD came out today. For any devotee of the American Standard song book, this is a MUST HAVE recording....there has never been, nor will there ever be anyone better in interpretation of song.

Her final concert, just seven weeks before her tragic death, and the only live recording of Nancy is so pure, heartfelt and perhaps one of the best cabaret recording of all time. Sure, you can hear the fork on plates and some of the songs are on her studio releases -- but this is a must have CD.

I could go on about each song, but I won't...they are all simply devine. They simply need to be heard. Althouh the highlights (if that is even fair to say) are "I Did't Know What time it Was", "How Deep is the Ocean" and "THe Promise".

Her signature songs "Listen to my Heart" and Help is on the Way take on a new dimension knowing at the time of Nancy's health...the inner strength she has to do what she was born to do -- simply sing -- delivers some of her most poignent moments ever.....

This is a CD destined to be in your CD changer always....

Last month, I was introduced to Nancy with a live recording of "We Live on Borrowed Time." I had never heard the singer, or song - and openly weeped as she pierced me to the core. This new CD is on my "Must Have" list. What a talent! I look forward to discovering more about her.

I have never heard an arrangement as hauntingly beautiful as Christopher Marlowe's version of "How Deep is the Ocean? (How high is the moon?)" - Nancy sings it with a quiet intensity that is amazingly beautiful and filled with life and love. this CD is a "must have" for anyone who appreciates a great interpreter of some of the finest lyrics ever written.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" She is, without a doubt, the greatest loss the music world has known. Yes...that may sound like an overstatement...but truly. No one...and I mean NO ONE...has ever made me feel so deeply as this woman has.

"We Live on Borrowed Time" is all the more harrowing knowing that she was indeed living on borrowed time. I get the same chill hearing her sing "We Can Be Kind," "Help Is on the Way," "Listen to My Heart" and "The Secret o' Life." All of the albums are wonderful, but I love the new live album because you get to hear her being funny in between songs.

Kiss - any and all of her CDs are worth investing in - her voice is like honey, smooth and sweet the way it flows over you. And her choice of songs and arrangements are some of the finest you'll ever hear.

Re "How Deep Is the Ocean"
In an interview Nancy said she spent about 20 minutes sitting in a corner of a studio in frustrated tears because she couldn't "get" to where she needed and wanted to be in the song.

I'd say she got there.

Well she sure gets me there every time I listen to it.

Funny thing, I have recordings of so many other people singingf that song. It's always pretty, but no one gives it that much meaning.

And RedHot--you are right to praise the arrangement by Christopher Marlowe. He brings out the best in her. Anyone know what he's doing lately?

Here's his website...the partnership Chris and Nancy had will never be matched -- he knew his role to arrange for her...and he absolutely knew her instrument as well as his piano...this is a combination of talents I fear we will never see/hear again...and add the simple fact that he is a brilliant and gifted piano player.

I listened to Nancy LaMott's "Moon River" from her "Come Rain or Come Shine" album. I didn't even realize that tears were pouring down my face. Such a beautiful voice.

Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!

Finally other people that know of Nancy LaMott. I got to know her music through a friend of ours who was a friend of hers as well. We (my ex- and I) immediately fell in love with her. She had the sweetest voice, and from what our friend said, she was a wonderful person as well. We had talked about going to her last concert, but for whatever reason decided against it. So sorry I never got to hear her sing live. Now I'm all melancholy...
