Since when, Chris Richardson? (I know I'm kind of late watching this recorded)

Would any vocal teacher actually teach their students to sing "nasally?" How is that a form of singing. Such an ignorant comment.

Also, there is no such word as "nasally". The adverb form is still "nasal".

I didn't think he was being serious, heh. I thought he was just trying to be witty just to piss Simon off, or something.

I thought he was being serious. I think he was trying to imply he was following the lead of the Rascal Flatts lead singer, who is extremely nasal. I don't think Chris was too smart to talk back to Simon tonight, given that it seemed like Chris knew he was going to follow that comment with a reference to the Virginia Tech tragedy (Ryan said something to him like "we don't have a lot of time" right before Chris spoke, implying Ryan knew Chris was going to say something about the shootings).

He may be referring to a method of singing in which singers are instructed to sing through their nose. Anything by Journey comes to mind.

It was in really poor taste for him to make that comment about the shootings. Even if it's true and it wasn't just him taking a page from the book of Phil "I'll say anything to pander" Stacey, it was in very poor taste.

Kringas, I see how it could have come off like that, but I don't think that was what Chris was trying to do. He seemed genuinely upset. He said he is from the area...maybe he has friends who attend the school.

Meh. Like I said, even if it was sincere, I found it inappropriate. Of course, I also find it inappropriate when they talk back to the judges, so clearly I'm not the best gauge of AI behavior.

Much like the week that Simon mocked whoever it was (Chris again? Brandon?) for mentioning that it was his dad's birthday, I think it's just a desperate grab to excuse away a mediocre performance.

I have to agree with Kringas. Simon hurt his pride, he lashed out, then realized what a mistake it was and said something to try and save himself.

And, you could hear Ryan whisper to him afterwards to stay on script and that they weren't supposed to mention VT.

It was creepy that he said that during his critique, and that he indeed went "off script."

However, it was even creepier that Simon rolled his eyes at that point, and even CREEPIER later when he felt the need to add his condolences.
