Does anyone know about DVD Recorders? I'm looking for a standalone unit that recognized 16:9 video (either from a camcorder or TV show) and records in it. The one I have now is a couple years old and while it looks like it's recording 16:9, it's compressed to 4:3 in any other player that the finalized disc is watched in.

Don't know if anyone here can help but it would be appreciated.

Have you tried changing your DVD playback settings to 4x3? It should record a stretched image (full 4x3 frame). Then you can set your recorder or TV to 16x9. That might work.

I record using my digital camcorder as a pass-through. It does a great analog to digital conversion. I change the DVD player to 4x3 (on an anamorphic 16x9 image). I input the video from the DVD player, then output it directly to my computer using FinalCutPro, where I can preset it as 16x9 footage. It comes out great. If I don't change my DVD player's settings, I do get a 4x3 letterboxed image, just like you.
