My daughter is looking for a song where you sing, then go to a dance break- jazz style and then sing again for a talent show. It can't be more than 2 minutes. Prefer a song that's very lively and crowd pleasing. Entertaining any suggestion! Thanks!

I don't know the timing on these, but you might be able to take a cut.
If My Friends Could See Me Now- Sweet Charity
I'm a Brass Band- Sweet Charity (you'd obviously leave out the chorus at the end)
I Can't Do It Alone- Chicago
Forget About the Boy- Thoroughly Modern Millie (I think this one's pretty long...)
Baby June & her Newsboys- Gypsy (You'd skip the boys and start with "Let me entertain you..." This timing should be about right.)

"We're in the money" and "Go into your dance" from 42nd Street.
"Let me dance for you" or "Music and the mirror" from A chorus line.

Posted: 2/12/09 at 8:05amI did "I Can't Do it Alone" for a talent competition once and the audience loved it because you can really play it up. You could also look in to "You Never Had it So Good" and "That's the Way it Happens" from State Fair. Best of luck to your daughter!

"If you've got it flaunt it" from The Producers.
"Buddy beware" from Anything Goes.
"Chicago Illinois" from Victor Victoria
"Take back your mink" from Guys and Dolls
"Show off" from Drowsy Chaperone
"Safety in numbers" from The Boyfriend (great number)
"I got rhythm" as Polly Baker from Crazy for you
Peeb Bo in Hot Mikado does a lot of dance, have a look at her uptempo solo.
There are of course always the solos from Cats.

Posted: 2/12/09 at 3:39pmThank you guys so much! blondebaby- she already does "I Can't Do it Alone"- it's definitely a crowd pleaser but very hard to get down to 2 minutes. I will check out all of your suggestions- which are very much appreciated!

Oh, "Show Off" is good!
I thought about "If You've Got it, Flaunt It" and "Take Back Your Mink" but I worried about the appropriateness. How old is your daughter? How much can she "get away with," so to speak?

Show Off is great.
What about My Strongest Suit from AIDA?

Posted: 2/17/09 at 7:35amThanks again to everyone. I found a great song called "Showstopper". My daughter didn't really like it but I found the track on musicalcreations.com- which by the way has a big selection of tracks.

Posted: 2/17/09 at 7:44amSo is she doing it even though she doesn't like it?
re: Need good song and dance song suggestions#13
Posted: 2/18/09 at 11:56amNo- she doesn't do songs that she doesn't like to sing. It's always her decision to make- I just bring songs to her attention and she makes the choice. She has to be comfortable on stage. I posted it because it's a great song for this category and someone else might like to use it. Thanks for asking.
