New "007" To Be Announced Friday

Sony to Announce the New 007 on Friday
Source: Reuters
October 13, 2005

Sony Pictures Entertainment said Wednesday that the studio will announce the actor who will play James Bond in director Martin Campbell's Casino Royale on Friday, October 14, at a news conference in London.

Reuters says no further details were disclosed, and the mystery remains over who will star in the film franchise that has grossed nearly $4 billion at global box offices since the first Bond film, Dr. No, hit the silver screen in 1962.

Reports in London have identified English actor Daniel Craig, who recently starred in Layer Cake, as the new Bond, but that could not be confirmed.

The new actor will succeed Pierce Brosnan, who first played 007 in 1995's GoldenEye, also directed by Campbell, and ended his run with 2002's Die Another Day. Four others have portrayed James Bond, including Sean Connery, Roger Moore, George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton.

Casino Royale is scheduled to begin production in January for an October 19, 2006 release.

Please don't let it be Jude Law or Ewan McGregor.

FINALLY. The sooner we end this crap with the rumors, the better. God, how annoying. Every English-speaking actor with all his limbs intact was rumored for the role.

I still think John Cleese is in with a shout.

And I also think Elaine Stritch would make a terrific Bond girl. She'd definitely kick ass.

Seems like they gave Brosnan the Frank Wildhorn Dracula cast album treatment a/k/a The Shaft

I may be in the minority but I think Lazenby was the 2 nd best Bond behind Connery. Major career blunder on his part with Bela Lugosi refusing to star in Frankenstein ( because it had no dialog)in 2 nd .

Heyyyy nooo I was hoping on Eric Bana or Clive Owen. Fine then.

Yea, because he'd look good sliding over the hood of a car.

My mom told me that Daniel Craig was announced in her local paper in NJ. The idea of a blonde Bond bugs me. Yes, Roger Moore bugged me, too.

I, too, was hoping for Clive Owen.
