The travel section of my local paper reviewed a New Broadway Diner on 46th Street in New York today. I haven't eaten there but thought there was enough interest in the subject to share it with you all.
NEW Broadway Diner is a taste of New York Stage
When one walks in to the New Broadway Diner, you see stars. The walls are spangled, the menu abounds with them and sometimes you even have them in residence, in the flesh! During one of my visits, Jeremy Piven was enjoying a delicious-looking sushi plate. I didn't sample it, but it must have been great- Piven ordered and ate 4 of them and asked for three more "to go." Jeremy, I don't know where you put it. (For the record he did look a little queasy after all that fish.)
The place was crowded but we were seated promptly. I ordered the Pattie LuPone, a burger topped with lettuce, tomato, mayo, ketchup, mustard, grilled onion, bacon, sauteed mushrooms, onion rings, BBQ sauce and mac 'n' cheese. There was so much of everything it was a little overpowering. I tried to take a picture of it as words don't really suffice but I was told that was forbidden. Sadly it was overdone and way too cheesy for my taste but others seemed to enjoy it.
My dining partner had the Chicken Corbin Bleu which was good but I wasn't really sure if it belonged in a place called the Broadway Diner. It looked terrific, however. We had wanted to sample the Tasia Turkey Treat but were told it was out that day.
For Dessert we ordered a Ice Cream Orfeh Parfait but a patron from another table ran over and demanded to know why we hadn't ordered the Clay Aiken and the Amazing Technicolor Cream Pie. We tried to explain that it didn't sound like something we'd enjoy but she made such a scene, screaming at us and demanding it was the best that we finally just went ahead and ordered it. It looked ghastly, but this deranged fan of it hovered over us demanding we enjoy it. (We did not!)
We also wanted to try the Rebecca cocktail with dinner, but were told it wasn't ready yet. We asked our server about it repeatedly and were always told "soon" but it still hadn't arrived by the time we finished dinner.
We were stunned by the prices- it seemed like things used to cost much much less back in the day, but there were lots of coupons and deals available.
I give the New Broadway Diner three stars.
Has anyone else eaten there? What did you have and how was it?

A friend had brunch there and said that no matter how you order the Dreamgirls Benedict, it comes covered with Jennifer Hollandaise sauce and it tastes REALLY old and bitter.

Bwahahah!
I wonder if the Orfeh parfait was much older than the description in the menu claimed.

Because this is a Broadway Diner and Clay isn't on Broadway Joseph...
Sheeze.
Did they try the Regional Diner around the corner?
