clearly bammy's feeling the heat if he has had to abandon his ideals (hah!) for the same old politics as usual kind of negative campaign.
halperin's right. he stupidly ceded the high ground and has now got himself into a mud wrasslin' match in which mac's gonna come out smelling like a rose. thanks, bammy.

Posted: 8/25/08 at 10:33amHe hasn't quite ceded the high ground yet. Obama is running his negative ads selectively in swing states, while McCain ran his nationally (and during the Olympics). National polls show 30% of people think McCain is running a negative campaign, while only 7% think Obama is.

Posted: 8/25/08 at 10:40amhypocrisy gets ratings. i am sure no major news organizations will be doing any stories on the fact that bammy's saying one thing and doing another. in fact, i bet that won't be a theme that we'll hear much about at all in the coming weeks.

Yes, it's called Democrats playing to win.

Papa I am SURE you are thinking of "Uncle Joe" Carson, whom you can often find in his rocking chair on the porch at the Shady Rest Hotel in Hooterville.

Papa,
You are so funny.
I guess we are just supposed to keep taking the lies spewed by McCain and turn the other cheek?
I am all for fighting back.
You can call it hypocrisy, I call it fighting fire with fire. We are not just going to roll over and take it.

ywiw, like i said, i'm not the one who campaigned on changing the way american and the world practice poltics. i think it's great that he's slinging mud like a drunken alderman. but don't get mad at people for snickering and pointing when he tries to paint others as the only ones who are playing at it.
the gloves are off and the righteous indignation about negative ads just looks childish now. i'm sure it will all work out in the end. *snicker*
now about you rolling over...

Just because he gets down and dirty with the smears of the GOP and dares to fight back does not mean he cannot still be for change. One is not mutually exclusive of the other.
I have yet to see a legitimate ad by McCain on the issues. If McCain is going to play dirty, then there is little choice but to follow him in the mud.
I would welcome an honest debate by the two candidates, but instead, we have the Karl Rove inspired attack ads by the GOP, which had to be countered. Maybe McCain can play the POW card again next time he puts his foot in his mouth.
I am glad that Barack Obama will not let it go like John Kerry did.
Snicker all you want. I would rather my candidate fight back than take it and lose.

I like the ad - good for him.
But I am tired of Obama = Change. He's not about change. Obama is another old school politician with a brand new marketing strategy - that's all.

thats funny, i always thought that when Obama spoke about change and a "new kind of politics", he meant a new kind of politics once he was in the white house. changing the way washington runs things once you are president doesnt mean you cant fight fire with fire during a presidential compaign.
You can fight back hard without resorting to the lame mudslinging we always get from the GOP.
after all, he wants to win right? and he certainly hasnt played nearly as dirty as the old man with the yellow wooden teeth. he's been strong on his attacks without being childish (paris hilton ad anyone?).

Meanwhile, McCain is trying to woo those Hillary followers too embittered by her loss. Will it work?
EDIT: Hillary in NY today, "I'm Hillary Clinton, and I do not approve that message ... We are united and we are together and we are determined."

Or Akin to watching McCain try to extract his foot from his mouth once again.
McCain has become a parody of himself.
If you want a pretzel, just look at what he has done to try and ge the nomination.
Papa, you can giggle with delight over the apparent inconsistencies of Obama, but if it ends up with a victory in November, I don't really care. It is nice to say the ends don't justify the means, but we have lost too many elections by trying to take the high ground. We need to demonstrate that we can play hardball as well.
And for the record, most of us thought that once the real dirt was thrown by the GOP, that Obama would have to get a bit muddy as well.
But McCain, he is living in a freaking pig sty. The man is made of mud at this point.

Go ahead.
I have a feeling that we will be coming out of the convention just fine.
If Obama loses, my only hope is that the senility has so confused McCain, that he cannot recall what he pretended to stand for in the first place.
That, or cry at what Shrub and his cabal have done to the Republican party. Somewhere, Barry Goldwater is turning over in his grave.

i also wanted to say, and this is just a personal thing that bugs me... i find the whole "B. Hussein 08" avatar to actually be quite offensive. If the intent is to get people to associate Obama with Sadam, then it's offensive considering what a monster and evil man Hussein was. Comparing or associating Obama to a mass murderer isn't remotely "funny". Same way its not cool when democrats like Madonna compare McCain to Hitler. Its just pathetic.
And if the intent is to get people to see the name "Hussein" and think "oh no! he's a Muslim", then I find it even more offensive as I have several incredibly wonderful, upstanding and gracious Muslim friends who are all just about the nicest people I have ever met. Is being a Muslim supposed to be a bad thing now? How sad.
Again... thats just my opinion, but I think its remarkable that even someone like you Papa would display something like that... even for a laugh. anyhow. *shrugs*
