re: New Vatican Rule Said to Bar Gays as New Priests

I think that 70% number being used is a WAG estimate. In any case, I believe the number is higher in the American Church than in the rest of the world. I have seen reports on the Society of Jesus though and the percentage of gay men ordained as Jesuits in the U.S. - post 1970 - is estimated at 60%. However, even this estimate is based on informal, self-disclosed information.

BTW, I think Martin Luther had already left the monestary when he married.

Bluemoon, my dad's in the transition right now. re: New Vatican Rule Said to Bar Gays as New Priests Of course, the problem is that, despite the Catholic Church having spectacular difficulty getting priests nowadays, they're still wary of taking on Anglican converts, and they generally don't put them in actual parishes if they do. For having the low numbers of men going through seminary that the Catholic Church does, they're being awfully picky.

Taryn - Congrats to your dad - it's not an easy choice! The ministry options vary from diocese to diocese. Here in Washington, DC we have two married priests - both in parishes. They're good men.
