If you don't like tourists then don't spend so much time hanging around the damn Toys R Us.

"New York Scared Me..."

Perhaps you should stay away during the summer and only visit during winter dates. I'd suggest a Times Square trip on November 29, 2008, December 20, 2008 or sometime late evening December 31, 2008.

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

Times Square on a Friday morning at 2am. I like to use that time to walk off my buzz after DQYNJ. There are about 15 people walking around.

When my mom was in visiting, we were walking around Times Square on a Saturday night. For some reason, Will Smith was right in the middle of the street filming something for his new movie. (Seriously, wouldn't a Mon-Wed been smarter?) You could not MOVE for the people trying to get a glimpse of him. Hell, people didn't even know what they were looking at and they kept pressing in to see. I kind of lost my cool and told people to just freakin' move! Didn't make me love the stinking crowded rotten mess of it any less, though.

Yeah, I was walking around on 9th ave. last Friday at almost 2am and there was nobody around at all. Everything was practically closed too. It was so weird, but cool seeing the city so dead. And yes, even though all the tourists are in Times Square, it's still cool to walk around there anyway. I don't think there is anywhere else in the world like it. And December is not a good time to visit if you do not like people. I went on the 7th last year, and everywhere I went was so packed. When I went back in February, it wasn't so bad. Even May was pretty good.

I suggest that this August you attend the Dragačevo trumpet festival in Guča, Serbia. Guča is a small provincial town of 2,000 that every year for the past 45 years has hosted this festival. For about a half a week, the town mushrooms into a city of over 300,000 with constant music and dancing (and not just a little drinking, too). It will prepare you for anything thereafter.

If New York scares you, I hope you never make it to London. The crowds in London aren't quite so bad, but I definitely feel less like I'm going to be stabbed in New York. XD

Since I started learning the above-ground geography of London, I'm very against going on a Tube train if I don't have to. I'll walk if I've the time, or bus if I'm feeling lazy. Walking is slightly better, because the vast majority of London bus-drivers are [CENSORED FOR SENSITIVE EYES]. It's pretty cool how much of London is in easy-walking distance when you get out in the sunlight and fresh air. It's nice to walk along the bank of the Thames as much as possible. There's so much there! :3

London is such a walking city. I'll take the tube if I need to get somewhere in a hurry, but for the most part I agree with Weez; there's just so much in close proximity, and so much to see whilst walking.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

I think the most crowded underground I've experienced were the Moscow Metro trains and stations during the commuter hours. The London tube never really bothered me. Minsk also had really crowded stations. That's where that horrible tragedy happened about 10 years ago at the Nemiga station where over 50 people, mostly teenage girls, were crushed to death after a rock concert when people rushed into the station to escape a thunder storm. Bad memories... (But no, I wasn't there at the tragic event, but I'm very familiar with that station.) re: New York Scared Me...

I went to NY last month to meet my brother and my nephew. They were staying in Elizabeth NJ and I was coming into Port Authority from CT. My brother kept missing missing me not realizing what I looked like since I lost over 150 lbs. No pay phone would allow me to call him on his cell phone. At the info booth the man said that he had been there paging me. He put the call into his cell phone and I reached my brother. He was now on the Staten Island ferry after waiting a hour for me. He would be back to port authority in about 90 minutes. I went into a little cafe at the entrance and ordered a cup of coffee. The manager threatened to call the police and have me arressted for loitering. So far so good! I then leaned up against a gaurd rail near the entrance of Port Authority for my brother to come. Wait, it gets better!!!!! He and my nephew finally get there and we go out to lunch at this pizza place.
there wasn't much for me to eat there since I did have weight loss surgery. My nephew wanted NY pizza and I had to give in. I had a salad with a tiny bit of cheese. It wasn't enough. We hung out there for awhile and they had to leave because they had to catch a plane back to CA early the next morning. We said our goodbyes and I was heading to the departing terminal when I dropped to the ground and fainted. I came to with the transit police standing over me. I felt very dehydrated. I drank the bottle of water I had on me and they got me another. I perked up immediately and said that I didn't need the paramedics. But they insisted on taking me to the departing terminal by wheel chair. It was fine with me and a very good idea. We pull out of the terminal on time and as we are leaving the Bronx and getting on I95 the heavens opened up with one of the worst rainstorms I had ever seen. The interstate was completely flooded and we cruised at a snail's pace. We made one stop in New Haven andthe people who got off there had to roll up their pants legs. The entire trip back to HArtford took 7 hours rather than the usual 2 and a half. So much for my trip to NY!

Times Square has never bothered me. I think the only time it could is on New Year's Eve.

The only thing that scares me about New York and it's the same everywhere are dirty public bathrooms. They are disgusting, the owners of the business's are expecting their patrons to use these germ infested rooms. Don't even get me started on Penn Station's bathrooms.

Don't worry, Cruel. I'm sure they were more afraid of you than you were of them.

re: New York Scared Me...

Actually, the growing pedestrian crowds in Midtown can be overwhelming to me as well.

I personally love New York: It's such a vibrant, alive and interesting city. I'm a Londoner, though, so I'm used to crowed cities. Having said that, during my last trip there (last month) I was in Times Square during the rush hour and have never experienced crowds like it.

Interesting that other people here think London is a walking city because I can't stand walking around London. There are so many little side streets and things I always get lost and it takes me a ridiculously long time to get anywhere. I much prefer NY's lovely lovely grid system. I actually love London's tubes (and am probably the only person in the world to do so) because the tube map is the only map I can read.

I love reading all maps and have a pretty decent sense of direction, so maybe that's why I prefer walking. I do love the tube map, but I don't love the stuffy hot underground metal can full of people. XP

The grid system of New York is awesome when someone asks you for directions, and even though you're a tourist yourself, you can still totally direct them. But little side streets are fun for walking too! It takes you a little time to learn your way around 'em, but once you do, there's a whole wealth of fun stuff goin' on. re: New York Scared Me...

Not American graffiti.

However, while I was in New York, I was able to have my friend call me up and ask me if I was a virgin.

My reply?

"NAH!"
