Newsies

omg. you are SOOO lucky that you're doing Newsies!!!! it's my absolute favorite movie! (i def. recommend you rent the movie)

there are 2 main female roles (Medda, the showgirl-type... and Sarah, the love interest) Medda is a strong singer while Sarah sings mostly in the chorus, but is a lead character

if there are many girls going out for those roles, theres nothing wrong with being a newsie! they have more fun and most of them have names and more lines anyway, and cross-casting would have to be an option for your director

oh, there are also ensemble roles, townspeople and such...but it seems to me that you want a substantial role

in terms of music, i'm not sure.... you may want to stick with a strong alto piece, or a mezzo song that can show your range

Oh good for you getting to audition!
FOr a group musical number for Washington's Indepandant Event Ferstival/Competition, 2 people in our advanced drama class decided to do "King of New York" from Newsies, which is going to be awesome because one of them is an amazing dancer and is choregraphing the whole thing. THey had auditions in our class to get five more people and I am so happy because I made it (And I was the few girls to audition!)

But Being a newsie would be so awsome in my opinion, if you want to be a newsie, I suggest something alto/mezzo. When I auditoned for YGMCB and was going out for snoopy I sang "Consider yourself". do what suits the character!
