did anyone see this movie, 2002!? I mean, talk about the caliber of the cast:
Nathan Lane
Chris Plummer
Jamie Bell
Juliet STevenson
Anne Hathaway.
Alan Cumming

visually it was stunning, though a bit over acted. any thoughts?

oh ya! the one he was trying to do throughout the film but always got interupted. That was funny. I love it when Jamie Bell hobbles on the stage and doesn't say anything for the longest time and you think he's gonna faint or something. it was a cool movie

A little bit. Long day... though the movie was kind of drawn out, kind of the way a big loop is. There, fixed! Jamie bell

Like when Nicholas was talking to Anne Hathaway's character? Way cheesy.

CQT, two recommendations for you:

1. Read the novel by Dickens

2. See the production by the Royal Shakespeare Company, which is available on VHS or DVD. While the biggest name in the cast might be considered to be Roger Rees, this is the most vivid and faithful adaptations. It's nearly 8 hours long, and worth every minute. Having seen it live on stage this production remains for me the most memorable pieces of theatre I've experienced in the 30 years I've been going to theatre in NYC. In my home watching NN has long been a Christmas tradition.

With either recommendation, or both, you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be uplighted, and you'll be filled with hope, but you will never, ever be bored.

Happy Christmas!

Yes, saw this version and, after trudging through the novel in college (but liking it), I found the movie to be SO homoerotic. Why does Nicholas have his shirt off when he is a teacher? (not complaining) and it seemed that the "love interest" for Nicholas was Smite (Jamie Bell) -- again, not complaining. When that Hathaway girl showed up I thought "get outta here honey, the boys are busy."

I don't recall the actresses name but the comically evil girl who pretends to faint for Nicholas -- HA! She was great.

"ubiquitous"

thanks for the tips Jose' ! BTW- i'm Jewish, but w/e. No matter!

Andy: i just thought that teh actor who played Nick was way overdramatic and delivered his lines as if the world was ending. I had the same question about the shirt off part. That was sorta dumb. And the romance, well, i think it was a little rushed. But other than that it was beautiflly acted and well worth a watch.
Jose' - you don't think they'd have the DVD at my local Hollywood Video? Nicholas Nickleby

I like the version with Jamie Bell. Another good version is a BBC production with James D'Arcy and Lee Ingleby. The characters are played really well. In some ways I like the one with James D'Arcy better, but I also really enjoy the one with Jamie. I have yet to see the RSC one.

For fans of Jamie Bell, it might delight you to know that he has a small role in Peter Jackson's King Kong, now being filmed. Nicholas Nickleby
