According to a report on HitFix.com, there will be no 'Best Song' Performance, "Reports indicate that the producers informed the nominees during the luncheon that none of the nominated songs would be performed live by the nominees (or guest stars for that matter). Instead, the songs will be interspersed with footage of the films throughout the show (no doubt under :30 each). While this has been tweaked a number of times over the years this deviates from a long standing tradition and it appears a few of the honorees are "outraged" they won't be able to get their moment on the big stage."
In addition, it appears that dancers from the dance talent competition series 'So You Think You Can Dance' may perform on stage. "Your Oscar dancers may include contestants from "So You Think You Can Dance". Rumors have been floating about this for awhile, but no one was really taking it seriously. That appears to be a mistake."

Looks like we have a pretty boring telecast to look forward to this year.
Well that sucks. I was looking forward to seeing Marion Cotillard and Anika Noni Rose perform.
Disappointing, but a shorter show. Hopefully.
This is seriously fretting the show's run-time picks in the BWW Oscar Pool.
How about they get rid of the cheesy host placements in the movies nominated instead?
Shorter? W 10 best picture clips/intros to get thru? Sadly I think not. I KNOW i speak heresy here but I wouldn't miss the best song category if it were to suddenly "disappear". The songs never get airplay anywhere else. What is the point now?
Sad to say, I agree. The best song performances at the Oscars always turn out awkward, regardless of how good the song is. I've always thought they should throw together a music video with clips of the movie, or just the musical scene from the film, like for Princess and the Frog. I think they should do more then the 30 seconds they will probably give them, but still..not gonna miss stuff like Beyonce singing a song from Phantom of the Opera etc.
It's gonna be a long a boring awards show. Seriously, first the 10 best picture nominations and now this? Can't they see the ratings go down?

Not gonna lie, I'm disappointed. I was really looking forward to this category this year. Oh well.
