My university is doing this show this semester. I'm debating whether or not to audition.
I did search for it on Google, and found a pretty good synopsis, but I'd like some thoughts from those who've either seen the show, or been in it. What's it like?

I just auditioned for it a couple of weeks ago, and I did scenes from the show for a competition in high school.
Do It!!! It's a blast.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 4:58pmThey just put up the notice today, and auditions are tomorrow and Wednesday. Last term, they had monologues and such in a packet for the audition, but I didn't see any with the poster. I'll check later tonight, but what would you suggest? Definitely something comic, right?

Posted: 1/31/05 at 4:58pmI saw it a few years ago in Australia and LOVED it. It was hilarious! You should definitely audition, I imagine it would be so much fun to be a part of it.

definitely something comic. something somewhat farcical, and something that incorporates a bit of physical comedy.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 5:55pmI read this play first and ALREADY thought it was hilarious. And then I saw it. This is just about as funny as you can get in theatre. It's one of the greatest farces you'll find. I wouldn't ever pass up the chance to audition for it.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 5:57pmOne of the funniest plays ever written. I've seen two productions including the recent London revival. The film version is available on DVD and sticks pretty close to the original script. The only changes made were that they were Americans actors performing a British show, exterior theatre scenes (very few) and the director's narration. The ending is only slightly different. I would jump at the chance to do the show, but if you're cast, get ready to learn one tough script. The timing of the second act is absolutely killer and I would assume they would have you do some sort of movement/mime audition as well as a reading considering the second act dialogue occurs out of site from the audience and the entire act (with the exception of Poppy's infamous outburst) is mimed.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 6:04pmOne of the funniest plays of the last few decades. I saw the original on Broadway with Dorothy Loudon and laughed till my sides hurt (I also saw the revival with Lupone which wasn't as sharp). An amazing piece of construction. Farce at its absolute best.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 6:32pmI saw my old college's production last year, and like everyone else I thought it was hilarious. I cried tears of joy.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 7:01pmDO IT! My high school tackled it last year and it was an absolute BLAST. Just be prepared to work hard. The second act is a b!tch to learn.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 7:18pmDo it! Saw it several times regionally and the Bd'w revival with Lupone. Like Pirates of Pen. some shows are fun from auditions to the final curtain. This is one of them. Have a ball!

Posted: 1/31/05 at 7:29pmthere's a film version w/ Carol Burnett, Jack Ritter, and Chris Reeve +more that's really great! I highly recommend it... way funny and cool!

They put on Top Gun The Musical last weekend, and they did a really good job of that. Hilarious!
I've never done anything like this before. I've done Hello, Dolly! and another locally written comedic musical, but never anything to this extent.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 7:35pmThe movie is OK, but it's maybe half as funny as a first rate stage production of the show. And Burnett wasn't in the same league in the lead role as Loudon (also true with that woeful Annie movie where Burnett paled in comparison to Loudon as Miss Hannigan). I loved Burnett's variety show, but for some reason, she loses something on film.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 7:39pmThat whole movie was dark and scary and BORING. I think John Huston must have been too old and depressed or something when he did it.
re: Noises Off#19
Posted: 1/31/05 at 9:12pmI'd have given my right arm to have seen Patricia Routledge in the original London production of Noises Off. Ken Mandelbaum wrote not too long ago that as funny as the original Broadway production was, the original London production was even funnier.
