I just heard this great story on NPR about the history of nontraditional casting in stage and film with a focus on the Annie remake. Thought many on these boards would find it as interesting as I did.

The Royal Shakespeare Company in London has a long history of nontraditional casting that it still continues to this day.

I don't think this is so much about nontraditional casting as just productions that did a different production.

Nontraditional casting was Audra McDonald as Grace in Annie:TV, Lea Salonga as Fantine in Les Miserables
