Wonderfully gay.
The novel treated the subject matter as high comedy, and the film seems to treat it as high drama. Yet in both forms, Notes on a Scandal is getting raves and looking to be a major threat in the lead actress, supporting actress, adapted screenplay and score (Glass) categories at the Oscars, if not Picture and Director too.

Glad I did a search before posting.
This movie looks (and I never say this word) delicious! Dame Judi and Cate Blanchett bitch fighting, teacher/student bedroom fun...it's just too good!

Oh, the melodrama. I'm hoping the trailer was a little overblown, as those things tend to be.

Saw a screening of the film last night. Fascinating. Judi Dench never ceases to amaze me. A brilliant, eerie, mind blowing performance! Cate Blanchett is excellent. Top notch supporting cast. There was a talk back after the screening with the director, Richard Eyre (who did a masterful job). Very interesting man. I hope it does well in the Oscar race. I do think Dame Judi is a shoo in for another nod.Magnificent Philip Glass score.
Its hot in a very wrong way!
Saw the film this summer.
Awesome.
Judi in the most unsympathetic role she has played and Cate is wonderful as a teacher who makes a mistake and almost loses all.
They will of course receive noms as Lead and Supporting Actress.
I really hope it comes to my area soon. I must see this.

yeah...wow..that looks awesome
WOW. This looks amazing.
...I love the shot of Cate coming down upon Little Judi with the book.
Another movie about an aging, spiteful brunette woman manipulating a young blonde woman-child is exactly what I need this winter.
I was excited about this one until I saw the trailer yesterday - looks like a C-list Fatal Attraction. Every line and situation they showed was cliched and contrived.
Don't be misled by the trailer. It's brilliant, sharp, original, complex, unpredictable -- and Dame Judi delivers the most extraordinary work of her career, I believe. Yes, this movie has some powerful head-on-collisions, but they are justified by the twists of the tale -- about kept secrets -- and make the movie one of the most theatrical of the year.
I love the Great Dame, so regal, so beautiful. I just want to see her down and dirty.......I love her line...."YOU ARE NOT YOUNG"......
I just bought the book. It's called "What were you thinking, Note of a Scandal."
